Year 3- Stone Age afternoon!

This experience formed part of our Literacy focus on The Stone Age Boy and our History learning, where we explored how people in the Stone Age made tools and houses, and how this period continues to influence Britain today, particularly through early farming techniques. The children thoroughly enjoyed our Stone Age afternoon, immersing themselves in life from thousands of years ago. They created their own cave drawings, completed a quiz all about the Stone Age, and even attempted to carve their names into pieces of wood. This helped them appreciate just how challenging carving would have been using stone tools. To extend this learning, the children then had the opportunity to make and paint their own tools using homemade playdough, cardboard, and straws. It was a fun, hands-on afternoon that truly brought their learning to life.

What a wonderful final week it has been before the half term break! The children have truly embraced the festive spirit and should be incredibly proud of all they have achieved this term.

Throughout the week, the children have loved taking part in Christmas-themed maths activities, combining learning with lots of fun and excitement. These activities kept everyone engaged whilst they worked together and showed off their fantastic skills. We have enjoyed brilliant class parties, filled with laughter, games, and a real sense of celebration. To top it all off, the children were delighted to receive some well-earned presents as a reward for their hard work and positive attitudes this term.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and carers for your continued support throughout the term. Your kindness and generosity towards all the teaching staff is truly appreciated—we are incredibly grateful.

We look forward to welcoming the children back for Spring 1 on Monday 5th January, refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.

Year 4 Get Crafty for Christmas

It has been a wonderfully busy and art-filled week here in Year 4! As we approach the end of the term, the classroom has been transformed into a festive workshop, with the children showing incredible creativity and focus. We kicked off our crafting by making our own Christmas cards. The children used their thumbprints to create adorable reindeer. It was a fantastic way to add a personal touch to their greetings, and there were plenty of smiles as they added the finishing details. Looking ahead, the children have also been hard at work on their 2026 calendars. 

Perhaps the most exciting project was completing our Christmas tree decorations. This was the culmination of our Design & Technology (DT) unit. The children used Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to build their models digitally before bringing them to life. It has been a brilliant way to see how modern technology and traditional crafting can go hand-in-hand.

The children are so proud of what they have achieved, and we can’t wait for them to bring these treasures home to share with you.

Year 3 Certificates

It has been an wonderful final week of the Autumn term in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

         Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children planned and wrote their own diary entries as the Ancient Child from our book 'How to Live Forever'. The children used past tense, first person and paragraphs to produce a detailed piece of writing describing the thoughts and feelings of the boy who lived forever. 

In Maths, the children have been working on multiplication using arrays. They were asked to draw arrays and then write the multiplication questions that matched with them. Excellent effort, well done Year 3!

Finally, the children have completed their festive fun run and enjoyed their Christmas dinners this week. It's been a long term, but it has been a joy to watch the children make progress in their learning whilst becoming more confident learners too!

Year 3- Santa Dash!

The children had a fantastic time taking part in the Santa Dash this week. Dressed in their festive hats, they ran the length of the playground as fast as they could, eagerly trying to catch one of Santa’s elves. Laughter and excitement filled the air as everyone gave it their all, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork. It was a joyful, energetic activity that truly captured the festive spirit.

Mastering Multiplication in Year 4

 This Halfterm in Year 4 we showed fantastic Resourcefulness using counters to explore arrays and multiplication. Working with reciprocity in pairs, the children practiced solving complex equations like 7 x 3 being Reflective and splitting them into smaller groups, like 5 x 3 add 2 x 3 This smart strategy, used prior knowledge, and helped build strong Resilience for tackling any multiplication problem they face.

"I need to remember this, I can use my 2 times and 5 times tables to help me answe my 3 times tables!" - Elsie, Elm

"I really like finding the links between my tables. My teacher showed me that if I double the 3 times table, I get 6, and if I treble it, I get 9." Munsha, WIillow 

"My favorite math trick is checking my 9 times table. I noticed that if you add the two factors of the answer together, they always equal 9." - Kylie, Maple

Year 3 Certificates

It has been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

         Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new story for the rest of the Autumn term, 'How to Live Forever.' The children began by using their inference skills to predict what might happen in the story. They then read the story, before planning and writing their own diary entries as one of the characters. It certainly has been a very busy week, well done everyone!

In Maths, the children have completed an arithmetic, reasoning and end of unit test for their addition and subtraction unit. This has allowed the children to demonstrate the progress they have made across this term. The hard work has really started to pay off! Well done Year 3!

Finally, the children have performed in their Christmas Celebration. The Year 3 team are immensely proud of the children's hard work in learning the lines, choreography and songs in such a short period of time. They were fantastic!
