Here are the spellings for the WC 02/02/2026.
It's been an excellent week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard all week!
In Literacy, the children has been learning about coordinating conjunctions and inverted commas for direct speech. The children were able to correctly punctuate some text relating to our book for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots'.
In Maths, the children have continued their work on place value by using part-whole models to partition numbers up to 1000. The children enjoyed using the dienes to make different numbers and then partitioned them by hand before demonstrating their knowledge through their book work. Well done Year 3!
This week's certificate winners are...
Star Writer - Teodor, Lenny and Vanessa
E for Excellence - Sophia, Teddy-James and Alariah
Teacher Happy - Harley and Maya M
4 R's - Afreenish, Jessica and Albie
During this half term, the Year 3 children will have the opportunity to visit Harold Hill Library. We will be walking to and from the library in our class groups during the morning. Due to limited space within the library, we will be visiting one class at a time.
Ash Class - Tuesday 28th January
Cedar Class - Friday 31st January
Cherry Class - Friday 7th February
This will be an enhancement to our Reading curriculum, where the children will be immersed in stories, learn how the library system works and will be given a tour and talk from one of the local librarians.
During the visit, the children will be given a form to join the library, this should be filled in and returned to the library.
It's been another wonderful week of learning in year 3, here's what we have been learning about this week.
This week at Broadford the children completed reading, maths and arithmetic papers to check that they are on track for their end of year expectations. All of the Year 3 team were impressed to see how resilient and mature the children were. Well done Year 3!
In Science, the children conducted an experiment to test the permeability of different types of rocks. It was fantastic to see the children studying their beakers and recording their results with enthusiasm. Great job Year 3, you are all super scientists!
This week's certificate winners are...
Star Writer - Denis, Jasmine and Edward.
E for Excellence - Aniah-Mai, Maya Aisha and James.
Happy Teacher - Nikita, Aadya and Osman.
4R's - Parisa, Anya, Kayden and Hussain.
This half term in maths we have finished our addition and subtraction topic and have now began building on our knowledge of multiplication and division. Our purpose with these topics is to build on pupils previous knowledge in these areas and increase the challenge. To support pupils we have been using a lot of objects such as cubes, counters and even dry pasta! This supports pupils by allowing them to physically see how numbers can be shared and grouped to show multiplication and division.
This week in Maths, we have had a big focus on times tables, sharing and grouping numbers. We have shared numbers into equal groups to find the answers to division sums and have created equal groups to show multiplication. To add a fun element to the Maths, we have completed some exciting practical tasks this week, and created arrays to multiply numbers by 5 and 10! Year 3 worked really hard to create an array to match their sums. They used their knowledge of columns and rows to support them in finding the correct answers. All of the year 3 staff are very proud -well done.
It was fun to learn about multiples of 5 and 10! - Nashwan (Cedar Class)
I like using the cubes in maths! It makes it more fun - Riley (Cherry Class)
Grouping numbers is fun!- Isabella (Ash Class)
Year 3's Super Scientists!
This half term we have been looking at rocks and soils. Our super scientists first began by identifying different types of rocks and classifying them using their own code. They could choose to group their rocks by colour, size or texture. We then conducted an experiment to see whether our rocks were permeable or impermeable, hard wearing and whether they could float and used this research to create new groups for our rocks! Using starburst, we were able to observe how rocks change from being sedimentary, igneous, magma and how they are then affected by the weather.
We moved on to soils and were able to see and feel a range of soil types. We then predicted the permeability of these soils based on what we could see. Using a coffee filter, beaker and water pupils were then able to make observations about the permeability of the different soils!
In Literacy, pupils have read the book 'Escape from Pompeii' and were able to create some brilliant newspaper reports. We identified the key features of a newspaper report, took on th role of a witness and reporter and then planned what we would include in our report. We were able to include SPAG features such as inverted commas, subordinating conjunctions and used a formal tone throughout our writing.
In RE, pupils looked at the story of Moses and were able to summarise the key events in the story. We watched a video, led by a young Jewish believer, who showed us around a Synagogue and informed us of some of their worship routines. We discussed how the Torah is kept in Arc and cannot be touched unless the user is wearing gloves.
In Geography, pupils were able to identify the UK, Italy and Russia on a map independently. We then looked at how countries may be in the same continent, but they have different laws and cultures. We use an information sheet to work out where different people were from by identifying which languages they spoke, the currency they used and the colours of their flag.
Please find below Year 3's spellings for this week. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings every evening, so that they are prepared for their spelling test on Friday.
