Willow Star Writer

Congratulations to Grace Gore for creating a great piece of descriptive writing, based on a visit to the funfair. Grace was able to use appropriate adjectives to create 2A sentences, used a range of adverbs to add extra description and focused on using fronted adverbials to create a clear image for her audience. Grace decided that her favourite sentence that she created was 'As soon as they arrived, the children were so excited to go on the rides, they felt as if it was their birthdays...' because she had incorporated a simile in her writing to add extra detail. Phenomenal piece of writing Grace, a pleasure to read. Keep up the good work!

Year 4 Travel Back in Time!

This week, year 4 pupils had the rare opportunity to step back 2000 years into life during the Roman era. Using their 4 historical skills - interpretation, enquiry, chronology, and communication - year 4 explored the deepest depths of the gory glory of the Roman Empire. They were treated to a fantastic day of super stories, intriguing information, and the chance to experience life in the Roman army. The hall was transformed into a Roman cellar full of spears, shields, helmets, and other ancient artefacts, and even Mr Lander got in on the fun!

Willow Star Writer

Congratulations to Samanyu Handoo for creating a phenomenal piece of descriptive writing, based on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. Not only did Samanyu ensure that his work was presented beautifully, but he also used appropriate adjectives to create 2A sentences, used a range of adverbs to add extra description and used a varied range of sentence openers. Furthermore, Samanyu did not just settle for using these descriptive features of writing, but challenged himself by incorporating similes, my favourite simile being 'Perched like prizes on silver plates...' Fantastic piece of writing Samanyu, an absolute pleasure to read. It is no wonder you are star writer this week!

Birch Star Writer

Congratulations to Sacha Raif for becoming this week's Star Writer! His impressive description of the Hindu festival, Raksha Bandhan, included a wide range of vocabulary and many impressive similes including: 'hanging like bats in a tree, the metal bracelets went clink, clink, clink.'  Sacha was so pleased of his work that he couldn't pick out his best sentence! Well done, Sacha, keep up this high standard!
