Year 3 Christmas Party

The Year Three children had lots of fun at there parties yesterday.  They played various games such as Pass the Parcel, Musical Statues, Musical Bumps and Pin the Nose on Rudolf. This was an opportunity for the children to team build and have fun.

We hope the children have enjoyed the fun activities of the last few days and we would like to say a big thank you for all of our lovely presents and cards.
We look forwards to seeing you all in the New Year

Elvis & Elfie McMagic’s latest Antics...

While Miss Estall is still recovering from her shocking disappearance and ultimate rescue last week, the year 4's have no doubt that it was the work of a Christmas elf. But they still have many questions as to the motive behind Monday's mysterious events. They are busy writing their newspaper articles covering the bizarre story. Meanwhile, there are now 2 elves causing mischief in year 4. They are definitely cheeky, but also do not like messy classrooms! We wonder what they have in store for us over the next few days before Christmas break!

Marvelous Mathematicians In Year 4

Year 4 have been developing their fluency, reasoning and problem solving in maths, and it's been all about the 6 times tables this week! Children used their reciprocity and resilience skills to create number lines of the 3 and 6 times tables. They were able to find many patterns and connections between them.

"I can see that every number in the 6 times tables is also in the 3's" Kyla
"I notice that if you know your 3's all you have to do is double it to know your 6's" Florence.
"The 3's go odd, even, odd, even, but the 6's are all even" Harry.

Then partners tried hiding numbers to see whether their partner could figure out which was missing. We also played a number of games that required critical thinking and a secure knowledge of fact families to guess the number placed on their head.

We ended the week with some reasoning problems which got those brains boggling!

"These one make my head hurt!" exclaimed Ruben

Remember, students should be practicing their time tables each day, and can use their online times table rock stars to improve their heat mat!

Artistic fun in Year 3

The children have been designing the front cover for the carol concert flyer.  The children were asked to draw a picture that symbolized Christmas for them. These children demonstrated great resilience, taking great care over their work and ensuring they added detail.

Year 3 Awards - 7.12.18

Freddie and Ellie were resourceful when the way we do morning work changed last week. Blake found out a fantastic fact, Molly-May has been putting in so much effort and Jolene and Riley received a presentation award.  Good job to all of you, keep it up!

Miss Estall Taken!!!

Well, it is safe to say it has been an eventful day in Year 4.

It all started pretty normal: morning work, maths, assembly and break. Then, mysteriously, after break Miss Estall was nowhere to be seen. She had vanished!

Quickly, the children were on the case looking for her. But soon after, Miss Hamlin got a bizarre email telling Birch class to "check the blue drawer".  There they found an envelope with a letter in. Take a look...

The poetic letter spoke of someone from Year 2, who wore bells on their feet... The children soon deduced that this could be the work of a Christmas Elf but there wasn't one in sight. So, they passed this information onto Ash who also searched their classroom and they found the Elf!
The Elf was sat naughtily holding a piece of paper saying "I've hidden her!"

Immediately, they began investigating. They searched high and low and interviewed many people asking who had seen Miss Estall and when. Here is just some of the information the children managed to source:

"Miss Chappel said she last saw her at the photocopier"

"She was on her way to make a call  in the office"

"Miss Chance said she was talking to her then she went to make a call but she never came back like she said she would"

"She went missing between 10:40 and 10:45 because she was seen before then and we came in at 10:45"

A few minutes later, Miss Hammond entered the class looking for Miss Estall too! She has a suspicious package addressed for Year 4. It was a code which needed breaking to discover the location of Miss Estall. So of course the children got straight to work to crack the code.

It read "Complete me and you'll see where she be..."

The code led the children to the Year 1 area and Miss Estall was eventually found, with an elf jumper shoved on her head and wrapped in tinsel in the cupboard! She had no recollection of the events apart from being on the phone and feeling something cover her head! The next thing she knew, she was in the cupboard!
Shocked and disorientated, Miss Estall emerged from the darkness.

This is now an on-going investigation in Year 4. We are yet to agree exactly how this happened or who the culprit is. Miss Estall is convinced that the Year 4 children had something to do with it but the children are certain it is the magic of the Christmas Elf!

The children have been investigating and piecing the  clues and witness statements together.
Watch this space for any updates!
