Year 3 Certificates

A huge well done to all of our wonderful certificate winners this week!

In Literacy, the children have been using their resourcefulness skills to research facts about the Stone Age. They have then reflected on their learning t consider which facts and information they need to include in their fact file, and carefully consider why the information they have included is relevant to their learning.

The children have started their next Maths topic - Fractions. They have been super busy reactivating their earning and using and applying their skills to find amounts of a fraction, as well as experimenting with different methods t find the answers.

There was a buzz of excitement in Science this week, when the children discovered that they would be investigating and making their own rocks using Starburst sweets!

Congratulations to all of our certificate winners.

Year 3's Literacy!

This term, year 3 are reading the book, Stone Age Boy. We started by immersing the children into the book, we predicted what might happen using our prediction and inference skills, we thought of questions we would like to know about the book and we researched The Stone Age!

After this fun week, we then moved on to learning about fact files. The children have used their reflectiveness skills to reflect on other non-chronological reports and the features we use in them to think of the features of a fact file. Then, we planned our very own fact file about The Stone Age using bullet points to help us draft our writing. Today, the children wrote their fact files using their plans to help them extend their sentences and wow we have seen some  amazing fact files!

'I enjoyed writing a fact file about The Stone Age!' - Ayaan

'Subheadings are a key feature in a fact file.' - Hope

'Fact files are a type of non-chronological report.' - Liroshan

Year 3 Stay and Learn

Thank you to everyone who came to our final Stay and Play session for Year 3, it was lovely to see so many of you there.

Our focus today was Literacy and the ways in which the children organise their writing. Beginning with the planning process all the way through to editing and evaluating their work. The children used their resourcefulness skills to demonstrate how they answer SPaG questions, allowing us to give you a small taster of some of the areas that we have covered within class.

We hope that you found the session informative. We will be looking at the responses from the parent survey to see how we can make improvements to ensure that the children can continue their learning at home effectively.

Please find the slides from today here

As requested, we have attached the slides from the previous Stay and Learn sessions.

Elm’s fantastic film afternoon!

Elm class enjoyed a fun afternoon watching Disney’s Strange World snacking on delicious popcorn. This was a very special treat because Elm class won the attendance league in the Spring term! A massive whale done to Elm class! I wonder what prize they would choose next time if they won it again...

'I really enjoyed watching the film.' - Lily

'I am so glad we won!' - Laynie

'l hope we win it again!' - Poppy

Year 3 Maths Journey

Year 3 Maths Journey

This week in maths we came to the end of our 'Mass and Capacity' unit. The children had the opportunity to use mechanical weighing scales to measure the mass of a range of items in the classroom, they then searched for items with an equivalent mass. We discussed the difference between capacity and volume and how to find that information using the measurement lines on a jug or beaker. We had the opportunity to use water to fill jugs to a given measurement, ready to help out with some baking at home!

Next, we will be looking back at fractions!

'Capacity is the maximum amount of liquid a jug can hold.' - Osazemen

‘Volume is the amount of liquid in the container at the time’ - George

Year 3 Certificate Winners

A huge well done to all of our wonderful certificate winners this week!

In Literacy, the children have been using their prediction and inference skills to find out information about our new book for this half term, Stone Age Boy.

It has been a week of measuring and comparing equivalent amounts in Maths! The children have been super busy filling different containers and investigating volume and capacity, using and applying their resourcefulness skills.

In Science, we have started our new topic for this half term, Rocks and Soils. The children have spent time grouping and classifying different types of rocks and investigated the different properties that rocks have.

Congratulations to all of our certificate winners.
