Acting in Ash!

Today in Literacy, the class worked in groups to act out a scene from the story 'Sofia Sofa' by David Walliams. The characters included an incredibly lazy Sofia-Sofa-Television, a strict judge and an angry neighbour (Mrs Arbuckle). Each group worked effectively, sharing ideas and listening to each other. Ash class showed both reflectiveness skills and reciprocity during this task.

Miss Daly can’t wait to read the sequel play script!

Week 6 - I’m a pupil get me outta here

Today, was a bumpy, funny and brilliant afternoon at Broadford University for the 'I'm a pupil get me outta here' students.

The children were each put into partners and given a blindfold. Each partner had to guide their blindfolded partner along the tricky obstacle course using their communication skills. Directions, support and guidance were vital during this task!

They were encouraged to complete the team challenge, using their learning powers of resourcefulness, reciprocity, resilience and reflectiveness.

Fraction Riddles in Ash class

Today in Maths, we worked in partners to answer fraction riddles. We all used our knowledge of equivalent fractions to try and crack the tricky riddle. Throughout the task, we worked well with our partner, sharing our ideas and we showed resilience when we found the task challenging. We all used our problem solving skills to answer the riddles.

We are now all equivalent fraction experts.
Congratulations to Arya and Ethan who completed all 4 riddles!

Keep up the excellent work Ash class! :)

Lights, Mirrors, and Reflections in Birch

This afternoon, Birch class continued their science topic of light.

Students first recapped what a light source was, with Oliver H., Evie, and Adi mentioning that fire, a torch, and the sun were all light sources.

Then, they became familiar with the straight way that light travels by angling their mirrors to see their partners... And, no, that's not Alex taking a selfie!

In pairs, they then used their own light sources to estimate the angle of reflection in a mirror.

There was some excellent reciprocity between partners who helped each other measure their rays of reflection. Excellent work, Birch Class!

10 House Point Question  -  What is special word for where the light meets the mirror?

Answer in the comments below!

"There will be parades and performances, the highlight of the parade is the dragon dance!" Maliat

"People will eat lots of food, enjoy fireworks, wear special clothes and hang red lanterns to mark the occasion." Fayo

"Fireworks are also set off, because it is thought that noise and lights will scare away any evil spirits for the coming months." Arya

Birch's Last Day

Birch Class have had a busy last day of writing up their stories on the Bogies and the Trolls as well as fitting in some time for their University of Broadford courses.

Also, we sadly said goodbye to Jorja for the last time before she goes to her new school after half term. Jorja, you will be missed by all of us!

And here's a silly one...

Thank you for work so hard on your stories today Birch Class! Parents, each child has a checklist for the half term to keep track of reading and rockstars practice. If you can't find it, it looks like this:

Remember, a completed sheet means you will have read and done some times tables every day starting tomorrow. A completed sheet is also work two merits in you tracker!

Enjoy the time off Birch class, and we look forward to hearing about the books you've read. Also, good luck in your new school, Jorja!

Mr Nicol and Mrs Spence :)
