Year 4 Certificates - 27.11.2020

It may have been a short week in school, but it's been full of hard work and superb efforts in Year Four.

We are really pleased that all the children in Ash, Birch and Larch have all come back in the Green Zone, ready to learn and that they have completed so much work on Google Classrooms. Thank you to all the families who helped them with this work too!

A big well done to all children, and some in particular who went above and beyond in their learning this week.

E for Excellence
These children have put in 110% effort this week and really showed us how in the green zone they were with their learning. Thank you for your incredible hard-work.
Congratulations to: Carla, Indianna and Jason

Year 3 Online Learning 23.11.20 - 25.11.20

  Happy Monday!

We hope you had a lovely weekend!

We have been very impressed by Year 3's dedication to online learning during this tricky period but please remember you can do the learning at any point that you are able; if there is a deadline please still complete the work whenever you can, we know everybody's situation is different.

Luckily, online learning will only continue for the next three days before we return to school on Thursday 26th November.
After this date the Google Classroom will still be accessible and spellings will still be uploaded there.

You can access this weeks spellings here:

We will be doing some practice with the children when we get back and will do our normal spelling test on Friday 27th November.

Please make sure your child is accessing Rockstars everyday and using our other online platforms like Mathletics,  MyBookBlog and Literacy Planet.

If you require any log ins please contact us.

Remember any extra work you do or any questions we are always on Google Classroom, or you can email year34@broadford.havering.sch.uk anytime!

Year 4 Online Learning - Week 2

We are so proud of all the children and their online learning last week. They have all been working incredibly hard and it has been lovely to see all the brilliant work they have been producing on Google Classroom. We will be continuing with online learning this week, until we return to school on Thursday 26th November - we cannot wait! Please find a suggested timetable for the next three days here.

All the teachers in Year 4 will be on hand to provide feedback for their work every day and to answer any queries the children might have.

Please continue to encourage the children to login to TT Rockstars, so that they can practise for at least 15 minutes every day and keep them reading - they could use this time to explore Mr Stink on MyBookBlog, as we have been reading it as our end of day story. The children have also all been given their logins for Literacy Planet via Google Classroom, which is another great online platform for them to develop their reading and writing skills.

Please do not hesitate to contact us using the Year34 inbox if you have any queries at all: year34@broadford.havering.sch.uk

We are so excited to see all the children back in school on Thursday 26th November.

Thank you for your continued support in such challenging times.

Good morning, Year 4!

Your spelling test is now available for you to watch on Google Classroom or on this link, thanks to the wonderful Miss Young! Make sure to listen carefully to the word and take your time to check your spelling carefully.

Year 3 - Stonehenge With A Twist!

In History this term, we continue with our focus topic - 'Buildings'. We have been exploring the Stone Age and finding out many interesting facts about the past!

This week, Year 3 went wild with whatever materials they could find in their homes to recreate Stonehenge.

Ranging from paper and Play-Doh to Lego and dominoes, our 'Broadford Architects' have out done themselves.

"This was the first thing I did for the day! Anything I can make out of Lego, I will!" shares enthusiastic Architect.

We look forward to when we can recreate Stonehenge in school together!

Children in Need and a HUGE well done in Year 4!

Last Friday, children in Year 4 were so excited to contribute to such a brilliant cause; Children in Need.

The children contributed to the door poster challenge, we made Pusdey come to life with our colouring, and even completed some colour by calculation Children in Need sheets! The children loved learning about Children in Need.

A huge congratulations to Charlie, Henry, Louie, Charlie, Hannah, Thomas, Richie, Archie and Finlay. They have raised a whopping £175 for Children in Need so far by doing an 8 lap cycle/scoot of their local park.

"They were all so amazing. It was a rainy afternoon and they all got wet (even us parents!), but they did not stop smiling, no one complained, they had such fun." - Karen, Charlie's mum

Complete!

Well done children, for such an amazing achievement. You have represented Year 4 (and Broadford) in such an incredible way. We cannot wait to get back to school to congratulate you in person! We are so very proud of you all.

Scintillating Sound in Year 4!

Last week in science, Year 4 started learning a new topic; Sound.

Our very first lesson was about how sound is made. The children carried out multiple experiments:

  1. Banging a drum with some coffee grinds/rice/flax seeds on top
  2. Playing a tuning fork and dipping that in water to see the water ripple
  3. Hitting a coat hanger with string attached on the top to hear the vibrations
  4. Twanging a stretched rubber band
  5. Flicking a ruler to see it vibrate

We all came to the conclusion that sounds are made of vibrations, which travel through a medium (e.g., liquids, solids or gases) from a source and into our ears

"The rubber band looked like it was producing 1 million rubber bands all at once! That's because it was vibrating so fast that my eyes couldn't keep up!" - Madalina, Ash

"I noticed that the longer the tuning fork, the lower the pitch, and the shorter the tuning fork, the higher the pitch! I wonder why that happens..." - Iyinope, Ash

"It's really cool when the tuning fork is placed inside the water because the water moves and makes tiny bubbles" - Daisy, Birch

"I wonder what would happen if we play music underneath water? I wonder if the water would move if we play the music very loud?" - Ellie, Birch

"The different pitches from different size forks is so interesting!" - Brian, Larch

"The harder you hit the drums, the more vibrations I saw and felt." - Sophia, Larch

Year 3 vs Year 4 - Battle of the Bands!

This afternoon, one of the biggest Rockstar battles of the year will start: Year 3 vs Year 4.

You know what to do children: play in Garage Mode and earn as many coins as possible.

Now that we are all learning online, this is a brilliant opportunity to have some new top earners from each class! The battle will run from this afternoon until Friday - so it is a bit longer than usual.

This year group battle will be alongside the usual, weekly class battles.

Who will be victorious?

Good luck Year 3 & 4!

IT'S ODD SOCKS DAY!

What is Odd Socks day?

Most importantly, Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!

Share your pictures online of you wearing your odd socks at home!

Year 4 - Online Learning

Dear 4 parents,

As you know, the children will not be returning to school until Thursday 26th November, but we will be updating Google Classroom every day with assignments in Maths, English and Topic to keep the children learning. Please find a suggested timetable here.

We are very lucky in Year 4, as all the children have had lots of practice with Google Classroom in school, so they should all be well-versed in using it.

All the teachers in Year 4 will be on hand to provide feedback for their work every day and to answer any queries the children might have.

As always, please encourage the children to login to TT Rockstars, so that they can practise for at least 15 minutes every day and encourage them to keep reading - they could use this time to explore Mr Stink on MyBookBlog, as we have been reading it as our end of day story.

Please do not hesitate to contact us using the Year34 inbox if you have any queries at all: year34@broadford.havering.sch.uk

We can't wait to see all the children back to school on Thursday 26th November!
