Year 3 Certificates

This week, the children returned to school after the half term break and have been very busy!
Let's take a look at the story of this week. 

    In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new story for this half term, 'The King who banned the dark'. The children used their inference skills to form a prediction about the story based on the title and images from the book. 

In Maths, the children continued to focus on length and perimeter by converting measurements from mm to cm and from cm to m. They then extended their learning by subtracting lengths. 

Well done to all of our wonderful winners this week.

It has been an wonderful final week of the Autumn term in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

         Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children planned and wrote their own diary entries as the Ancient Child from our book 'How to Live Forever'. The children used past tense, first person and paragraphs to produce a detailed piece of writing describing the thoughts and feelings of the boy who lived forever. 

In Maths, the children have been working on multiplication using arrays. They were asked to draw arrays and then write the multiplication questions that matched with them. Excellent effort, well done Year 3!

Finally, the children have completed their festive fun run and enjoyed their Christmas dinners this week. It's been a long term, but it has been a joy to watch the children make progress in their learning whilst becoming more confident learners too!

Year 3 Certificates

It has been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

         Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new story for the rest of the Autumn term, 'How to Live Forever.' The children began by using their inference skills to predict what might happen in the story. They then read the story, before planning and writing their own diary entries as one of the characters. It certainly has been a very busy week, well done everyone!

In Maths, the children have completed an arithmetic, reasoning and end of unit test for their addition and subtraction unit. This has allowed the children to demonstrate the progress they have made across this term. The hard work has really started to pay off! Well done Year 3!

Finally, the children have performed in their Christmas Celebration. The Year 3 team are immensely proud of the children's hard work in learning the lines, choreography and songs in such a short period of time. They were fantastic!

It's been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

         Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children have been retelling the story of 'Stone Age Boy' through their independent writing tasks. This piece of writing allowed them to demonstrate their knowledge of the story, whilst also changing some elements of it. The children were able to effectively use expanded noun phrases to add additional detail to their writing, whilst also remembering to write in paragraphs. Well done everybody! 

In Maths,  the children used their knowledge of adding and subtracting using the column method to subtract a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number, before moving on to work on complements to 100 and using inverse operations. It's certainly been a busy week in Maths

Finally, the children have been preparing for their Christmas Concert performances next week. The Year 3 team wish the children the very best of luck!

In Literacy, the children started the week by reading their story for this half term 'Stone Age Boy'. They then used their knowledge of the book to summarise the beginning, middle and end of the book. This was important information which allowed them to plan and write their own shared retelling of the story. Excellent work Year 3!

In Maths,  the children used their knowledge of adding and subtracting using the column method to add and subtract numbers across a hundred. It was good to see everybody making progress and remember to carry over numbers into the correct columns. Great work everybody!

It's been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

                                                           Let's look at the story of this week...

In Literacy, the children produced their own Non-Chronological Reports on the subject of caring for a pet. The children were able to choose to write about a dog, a cat or a goldfish and used their research on their plans to assist their independent writing. The children made sure they had included a title, subheadings and paragraphs, whilst ensuring they used their best handwriting throughout.  Well done Year 3!

In Maths,  the children continued to look at adding and subtracting numbers using the column method. They started the week by adding and subtracting two numbers across a ten, before challenging themselves to repeat the process when crossing hundreds. It was excellent to see every child make meaningful progress this week. Well done all!

In Literacy, the children were researching their favourite pet for their fact files on the subject. They then planned and produced their own fact files using features such as subheadings and paragraphs effectively. Well done Year 3!

In Maths,  the children continued their topic for the start of this half term, addition and subtraction. The children began to add using column method, first without exchanging before moving on to exchange. 

Excellent effort this week Year 3!

The children also enjoyed a trip to the cinema this week to watch 'Garfield'.

They also carried out their own research into the Stone Age, which helped them gain a better understanding of life during this time. 

In Maths,  the children continued their topic for the start of this half term, addition and subtraction. The children were adding and subtracting tens across a hundred using the number line method to support them.

We have made it to our first break of the year and the children have ended this half term by working exceptionally hard this week. Let's take a look!

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of their story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to conclude their original next episode of the story. They then used their edit and evaluate skills to make improvements to their work before reading their stories aloud. The children have also focused on apostrophes, homophones and an or an this week. Wow Year 3, you have been busy! 

In Maths, the children continued on their topic 'Addition and Subtraction' and extended their knowledge by adding and subtracting a given number by crossing a ten. They then extended this further by adding and subtracting across a hundred. Excellent work Year 3!

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of their story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to create a next episode of the story. These next episodes focused on the two robots experiencing either a camping trip or a school disco. It was wonderful to see the children using expanded noun phrases and inverted commas correctly in their writing. Well done! 

In Maths, the children continued on their new topic 'Addition and Subtraction' and extended their knowledge by adding and subtracting a given number by crossing a ten. Well done for all your hard work this week.

It's been an excellent week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard all week!

In Literacy, the children continued their work on our book for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots'. Last week, the children planned and wrote a letter to the main character of the story, Callum. The purpose of the letter was to ask Callum to build the children's creative and unique robots for them. This week, the children wrote a reply to this letter as Callum. This was their first piece of independent writing in Year 3! Well done to all!

In Maths, the children concluded their work on place value by comparing and ordering numbers to 1000. The children enjoyed their practical lessons this week before completing their end of unit tests and beginning their new topic, Addition and Subtraction.

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new story for the half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots' and began the week by designing and annotating their own robots, using objects from the home. We then taught the children all about blurbs, including where to find them and what they should contain. The children then used this knowledge to create their own blurbs related to 'A Tale of Two Robots'.

In Maths, the children began their work on place value by using part-whole models to partition numbers. The children enjoyed using the dienes to make different numbers and then partitioned them by hand before demonstrating their knowledge through their book work. Well done Year 3!
