Welcome back! 

Welcome back Year 4 and well done for an excellent week. What a way to start the new term! We hope you all had a lovely and restful break; ready for all the exciting things we have planned for the summer term. 

This week in literacy, the children have delved into the world of Varjak Paw, a Mesopotamian Blue cat created by SF Said. We have begun reading the book and we have all been on the edge of our seat ready to find out what will unfold throughout the story. In maths, we have completed our work on fractions and begun looking at tenths: identifying what tenth is represented. For our history lesson we have looked at lots of interesting artefacts from the Viking period and made predictions about what they were and who might have used them! The children have been putting their time telling skills to the test this week in French: telling the time to o'clock and half past.

In our topic this week we were looking at living things and their habitats. Year 4 went outside and drew a realistic drawing of a mini-beast and then used an identification key to identify the mini-beast. There were some incredibly realistic drawings, one of the children even drew the lump in a worm where it had been cut in half previously! They certainly were impressive!

Welcome back to school year 3! We have had a great week welcoming everyone back and have started our final term off superbly. 

This week we have started our new topics and have enjoyed finding out what we will be learning about this half term. In Maths we are looking at fractions again. In Literacy, we have been introduced to our new book: Stone Age Boy. 

Our certificate winners have done especially well to stand out in a 4 day week, so a huge well done to our winners.

Authors Aloud!

On Wednesday, the children experienced a live author event, to celebrate Earth Day (22nd April) with a focus on climate and environmental literacy, by joining an online session with James Sellick, who read his picture book, There’s a Rang-tan in my Bedroom. 

 

There’s a Rang-tan in my Bedroom is a story about a baby orangutan that suddenly shows up in a young girl’s bedroom. At first, the girl isn’t best pleased, but when she finds out why the orangutan is there, everything changes. As well as the reading, James spoke about the important topic of deforestation for palm oil and helped children understand what they can do to help. 

The children followed up the discussion by applying their resourcefulness skills to design posters informing others of the dangers of deforestation.

Y4 Experiences - local area

 Year 4 will be visiting the local area this week to see how volunteer organisations help local wildlife.
