Brilliant Bakers in Year 3!
This half term in DT, the children have been focusing on their project entitled 'Healthy Muffins'.
In the first lesson, the children studied the muffins that are already available to buy on the supermarket shelves. They found blueberry muffins, apple muffins and savoury muffins, such as cheese. The children then taste tested some muffins to explore their textures and flavours.
In their second lesson, the children were introduced to the bridge and claw technique. They used this technique to ensure that they were able to safely cut the fruit and vegetables for their muffins. The children also used the graters and peelers to practice the skills needed for their final bake.
Next, it was time to explore the recipe, ingredients list and flavour combinations for the children's muffins. The children decided to make apple, carrot, raisin or banana muffins and they carefully prepared the recipe needed to make their bakes a success.
Finally, after all of the steps were complete, it was finally time for the children to make their own healthy muffins. The children worked in groups for this task, and it was so wonderful to see them supporting each other and taking turns to add or mix the ingredients. Then it was time to bake the muffins before finally tasting and evaluating them. For this, six children from different Year 3 classes went to look at another classes final product.
What a wonderful half term with some delicious results! Well done Year 3!
