The Happiness Recipe: Humanist Workshop.

Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed an uplifting session with a guest Humanist speaker, focusing on the "Ingredients of Happiness." It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore big questions about emotional well-being and our connections to others.

We began with a "whole class word wave and discussed the beautiful quotes below.

"Happiness is the only good. The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so." - Robert Ingersoll

They got to discuss Nelson Mandela and the history of segregation, highlighting how justice and equality are essential to a happy society. Students also shared personal "ingredients" for joy—ranging from the power of photographs to trigger happy memories to the simple act of giving a compliment.
We concluded with "Partner Talk," where students practiced spreading joy through kind words.

"I love that there is the idea that we should always be happy but also make people happy too!"  - Bella, Elm

"It doesn't matter what religion or beliefs you have we can all follow the golden rule.! Dani-Ella, Maple

Humanism is a way of life not a religion. - Onyeka, Willow
