In Science, year 3 have started a new topic called 'Animals including humans.'
They started by using their reflectiveness skills to reflect on their previous knowledge of food groups such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats and dairy. Then, we learnt what a nutrient was and how nutrients are essential to any living thing. The children then researched the different nutrients (such as fibre and vitamins) found in different foods and presented their findings to the class.
Moving on, they investigated different food labels that we find on our food packaging and how animals also need different nutrients to stay alive.
This week, the children learnt about different body parts including the skeleton! They used their reciprocal skills to draw their own skeleton in groups, working together to identify the various parts of the skeleton. After, they researched how the skeleton protects our body. For example, what job does the skull do?
Also, the children had a very exciting visit from Professor Bubbleworks! They enjoyed learning about bubbles and air.

Year 3 have had another amazing week !
In Maths, they started their new unit on fractions. They discussed what a numerator and denominator is and looked at both unit and non unit fractions.
In Literacy, they have been looking at newspaper reports and the key features. The children then went on to focus on the 5ws for their new book, in preparation of writing their own newspaper report next week.
The children have been introduced to their new Geography topic ‘Europe’ where they have been looking at the oceans that surround Europe, the different countries within Europe and their capital cities. The children used their chrome books to research the different areas and share with the class.

During our Guided Reading sessions in Year 3, the children have been taking part in Reader's Theatre, which is a highly motivating reading strategy that provides a context for authentic reading. The children read to convey meaning using their voice, facial expressions and gestures.
Reader's Theatre has helped the children to read with fluency, read aloud with expression and to build their reading confidence.
Based on our new class novel, Charlie Changes into a Chicken, the children have taken great delight in performing as different characters and inferring how the written text is said.
The children have used their reciprocity skills to work together to assign reading parts and decide how to perform the short extracts. As the weeks have gone on, it has been wonderful to see the children grow in confidence. Their performances have certainly been Oscar worthy!
