World Book Day in Year 3

 

Year 3 have had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day yesterday. The children were immersed in stories throughout the day, taking on roles of different characters as well as discussing their likes and dislikes about different genres and thinking about what makes a good book.

The children began the morning, with a mini fashion parade to show off all of their wonderful costumes before moving on to design their classroom doors in their chosen theme. Throughout the morning, the children spent time reading either alone, with a friend or adult or in a small group. They then had to use their resourcefulness skills to design and create a book mark for themselves. The fun continued this afternoon, where the children took part in an extended Guided Reading session based on their class novel 'Charlie Changes into a Chicken'. What a fabulous day we had in Year 3!

Well done to year 3 on another great week. 

We have had an incredibly fun week as yesterday we celebrated world book day. Everyone in year 3 had a fantastic day and looked even better! We took part in a variety of different activities throughout the day including decorating our classroom doors, designing  our own book covers and lots and lots of reading!

In Maths this week we have continued our great work with fractions. The children have been counting in a number line in fractions and have worked incredibly hard. In Literacy, we have spent the week planning and writing our own newspaper reports about the tremors caused by Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii.  

A huge well done to this week's certificate winners for continuing to shine bright.

In our recent lessons on Hinduism, the children engaged with the concepts of Puja and Aarti, delving into their meanings for the Hindu community. Year 3 actively participated in discussions on the significance of various objects used in Puja, gaining a deeper understanding of their importance to Hindus. Additionally, the children investigated the worship practices of Hindus, exploring the interiors and exteriors of a Mandir and reflecting on the role of shrines in home worship. This was a valuable opportunity for the children to gain insights into the rich cultural and religious practices of Hinduism.

Year 3 have had a brilliant first week back!

This week we have been super busy starting all of our new topics!  In Literacy we have started our new book Escape From Pompeii where we heave learnt all about The city of Pompeii and it destruction. 

In Maths we have taken well to unit and non unit fractions and in science we have started exploring our new topic of Animals including humans, where we are focussing on diet and healthy eating.
