Readers Theatre

Readers' Theatre is a reading activity which involves reading a script aloud in a small group. In Year 3, the children have been working on a script from their class novel 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and worked in small groups to take turns to speak. They have applied their reciprocity skills to work alongside others and their resourcefulness skills to act imaginatively.

During this session, the children were concentrating on maintaining eye contact with their audience and displaying confidence when reading aloud.

The Year 3 staff have been blown away by the children's acting skills, a huge well done to all of the children.

'It was really fun to read and act in front of my class.' - Poppy

'There are so many things to remember when we perform!' - Iustin

'We get to act and practise our reading at the same time!' - Brielle

Year 3 Certificates

It's been another fantastic week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children have planned and produced a letter to Callum, the inventor at the heart of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots.' The children were able to identify the key features of letter writing and then apply these features in their work. They then looked at their finished piece of writing and made changes to improve the quality of their writing. Well done Year 3!

In Maths, we have been continuing our work on place value and have been finding 1, 10 or 100 more or less than a given number. The children then estimated numbers on a number line up to 1000. It's been wonderful to see the children's progress this week. Well done everybody!

Here are our certificate winners for this week.

Year 4 are Flexible in Maths

In Year 4 this week we have been looking at place value, specifically 1000 numbers.

In this lesson, the children were taught how to flexibly partition.

For example:

2345 = 1000 + 1300 + 20 + 25

The children used counters and part whole models to support their learning and they were very successful!

"Flexible partitions is like partitioning, but you don't have to keep with the hundreds and thousand. I could say 1,200 + 2,009= 3,209", Kayden - Willow

"

"I get it now ! Once you make the number, you can just move the counters." , Olivia - Elm

“The counters really helped me to understand how the numbers were grouped.” Nyasa- Maple
