Year 3 Learning Journey - Guided Reading

Year 3 Learning Journey
Guided Reading

Year 3 had a fantastic time this week diving deeper into Andy Stanton's delightfully wacky book, 'You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum!'. We wrapped up our guided reading sessions by using our inferences about Mr Gum to make predictions, and culminated the week with an enthusiastic Reader's Theatre performance!
Becoming Storytellers: Reader's Theatre
The children enthusiastically stepped into the shoes of our quirky cast of characters! During our Reader's Theatre session, our Year 3s focused on projecting their volume, utilising varying tones and vocal expression, and using actions to bring the text to life. It was a joy to watch them build their public speaking skills and transform the dialogue from the page into a live, theatrical performance.
Inference & Prediction
Before our performance, we took a close look at the main villain himself. Guided reading is all about digging beneath the surface, and our class did just that! The children used clues from the text to make inferences about what drives Mr Gum, using their developing knowledge of his famously grumpy and mischievous nature to predict what happens next in the story. They came up with some brilliant, highly imaginative (and wonderfully sneaky) theories about his next plans!
Well done Year 3!
