On Tuesday, Year 3 had a wonderful day seeing all of the different animals at Colchester Zoo.
First, the children had to decide within their groups which animals they would like to see and come up with the best route to take around the zoo. Then, we set off in our groups to find all of our favourite animals whilst learning lots of new and exciting facts along the way!
The children all got to have an up close and personal experience with the goats, and had the opportunity to feed and stroke them as they walked through the enclosure, this took resilience for some children, who had never experienced a large animal so close before. There was so much to do whilst at the zoo, including taking the zoo train into the lemur enclosure and feeding the parrots in the giant bird house!
We finished the day with a lot of tired, but very happy children!
To enrich the children's learning experiences whilst at Broadford, Year 3 went outside this morning to complete our final enrichment task, which was to read under a tree.
The children began their experience by listening to our class novel - You're a Bad Man Mr Gum, which was read to them by their class teacher, before taking time out to get comfortable, relax and read a book of their choice. Many of the children used their reciprocity skills to read along with their peers but others chose to take the time to read quietly alone.
My teacher used his story voice! - Noah
Listening to the story outside was nice, it was so quiet - Moyo

It's been a fantastic week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard all week!
In Literacy, the children were introduced to their final topic of Year 3 which focuses on the key features of advertisements. The children began by identifying these features for themselves and discussing the effectiveness of persuasive language. The children then began to plan their own advertisement posters for their 'marvellous medicines', which they will present during Wednesday's lesson next week. Well done Year 3, you have produced some excellent work this year!
In Maths, the children continued to explore durations of time before completing their end of unit tests for this topic. Across the year. the children have worked exceptionally hard to grasp some challenging mathematical concepts and their hard work and determination should be congratulated. Well done Year 3!
