Year 3 get off to a fantastic start in KS2

This week, year 3 have dove deep into KS2 life. They have taken part in team building activities, they have all started their MyBookBlog questions, and they have met the high expectations of year 3 behaviour!

Teachers and children have also got to know each other... Mr Nicol found out that Adefolawemi loves playing FIFA with his brother and that Nancy goes to dance lessons each week! Miss Taylor discovered that Gabriela loves Mamma Mia and Freddie S. has been to Turkey!

We look forward to a busy, hardworking year ahead. Have a great weekend and remember to get those reading records signed!

Year 3 - Curriculum Newsletter

Welcome back to the new academic year! We hope you find this letter informative, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions relating to the curriculum.

Homework:

Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

• 15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult and note in the reading record
• 15 minutes practising spellings
• 15 minutes rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

If children would like to attempt an additional challenge, we have a new Learning Challenge for children to attempt this half of the Autumn Term. All of the activities are based around a significant person, poem or painting relating to our topics. Children do not have to attempt every activity but instead select the activities that they are most interested in and compile a project that reflects the extra time and effort that they have put into their challenge. We hope that children will take their time with the challenge and be proud of the work they produce they should hand this into their teacher at the end of the half term.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practise their words every evening. We encourage the children to write their words in sentences on the back of their homework sheet. Their spelling test will take place on Fridays. Children in Read, Write, Inc groups could have their spellings given out and tested on different days.

Rockstar Times tables:

Children will be completing their timestables daily in school at the start of each maths lesson. Please practise timestables with your children at home.

Year 3 Learning Challenge for Autumn 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to provide you with the Year 3 Learning Challenge for this half of the Autumn Term.

This learning challenge gives the children the opportunity to look at their local area from a number of perspectives. These include those of a contemporary musician, a modern-day athlete and a 19th century artist and poet. It is entirely up to your child whether they select the poem, significant person, music or painting, or a combination of all 4. They can also select the activities that they want to attempt, though we would encourage them to be ambitious and to deepen their learning as much as possible.

Although the Learning Challenge is entirely optional, and is in addition to the daily expectation of 15 minutes’ reading, 15 minutes’ times tables rehearsal and 15 minutes’ spellings practice, we have found that a large proportion of children have voluntarily taken up the challenge and have gained a great deal from it. We would therefore greatly appreciate your encouragement to participate. The children will receive a special Learning Challenge certificate at the end of the half term on completion of a project that shows a significant level of effort and challenge undertaken.

Year 3&4 Mailbox

At Broadford, we consider communication between home and School to be extremely important. However, we also understand that the end of day is not always the easiest time to communicate with your child's class teacher and that not all parents/carers are able to collect their children from School.  This is why we provide you with an email in which you can contact your child's teacher directly should you have any queries.
