Well done Year 3 for a fantastic week of hard work.
In Literacy this week we have identified the features of a fact file, conducted research to find our own facts and planned and written our fact file based on the Stone Age.
In Math, we have been continuing with mass and capacity. We have worked through mass and recently began measuring volume and capacity. The students had a great time using jugs with different capacities and volumes to measure amounts of water.

It's been a wonderful week of learning in year 3, the children have all worked incredibly hard.
In Maths, the children continued to explore the topic, length and perimeter. We moved on to calculating and converting lengths using millimetres, centimetres and metres.
In Literacy, the children planned and wrote a newspaper report based on the devastating events that famously destroyed Pompeii. The children used a variety of features including paragraphs, past tense and inverted commas for quotes.
The children have also been busy celebrating British Science Week, which had a focus on change and adapt. During the week, the children took part in a number of different activities including completing a scientific experiment all about toilet paper!

In Literacy, the children suggested ways to help their partner overcome their fear of the dark. They then created an adverb word bank to help them improve their writing of a letter to the King. This letter suggested ways that the King could overcome his fear of the dark.
In Maths, the children built upon their existing knowledge of the column method. They worked on questions which involved adding and subtraction 2 numbers with no exchange. It was wonderful to see the children bursting with pride at their progress in this area. Well done!

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new book for this half term 'The King who banned the dark'. The children used their inference skills to predict what would happen in the story, before forming questions about the story that they would like to find the answer to by the end of this half term. Excellent work Year 3!
In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of adding and subtracting across ones, tens and hundreds. The children were able to draw number lines in their books to help them answer some tricky questions. Well done Year 3.

It's been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard across all of their subjects to make progress in their learning before the Half Term break.
In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to write an alternative story as part of an independent piece of writing. It was lovely to see so many children using their imagination to bring these alternative stories to life whilst also ensuring that they challenge themselves to use expanded noun phrases, inverted commas and paragraphs effectively in their writing.
In Maths, the children have been learning to add and subtract ones across a ten using the steps to success to aid their learning. They then applied this knowledge to adding and subtracting across a hundred to great effect. Super job Year 3!
