Commanding Year 4

The Ten Commandments in Year 4

Recently in RE the children have been studying Judaism. This week they looked at the 10 commandments that Jewish people live by.

The class discussed each one and the importance it held in every day life.

Next, the children got into small groups and chose a commandments to act out. The sketches showed the children reflecting on a commandment in every day life and how it helped them to make choices.

The rest of the class became the audience and were able to suggest which commandment had been performed and which decisions had been made based on following these.

Year 3 Visit the Synagogue

Year 3 had a fabulous visit to the Synagogue this week, where we were warmly welcomed by the Jewish Community.

Both mornings were fun and  informative. We began with the children being shown around the different parts of the Synagogue, including the prayer area, where they were able to see and hold, the Torah and Scrolls. They looked at Hebrew writing and discussed how it was different from their handwriting. The children asked some very thoughtful questions and were extremely respectful at all times.

Year 4 Researching RE

The children worked hard in their RE lesson this week. They began by thinking about Humanists and Christians and what mattered most to them. They created some I wonder questions about the topic and shared these with their peers.

Following this, they used their reciprocity skills to complete the jigsaw task. Each group found facts about a specifc religion and feedback to the class so they could all complete a poster sharing their knowledge. We were all very impressed at how well the children worked together and how resourceful they were in selecting their facts.

“I found out so many new and interesting facts.” - Denis, Maple

"We loved working together to find out some new information and sharing it!" - Himanshi, Qhaleed & Elsie, Willow

R.E in Year 3

In our R.E lesson this week, the Year 3 children used their reflectiveness skills to consider the different aspects of the words and actions of Jesus with a  focus on caring for people in need.

They began by exploring the biblical story, 'Jesus feeds the 5000,' through the use of drama, demonstrating their reciprocity skills to freeze frame and act out the story in small groups. The children then considered the different events that happened in this story, and used expression and action to portray how to help those who are in need.

Finally, the children showed off their acting skills to their peers with their very confident representations of how Jesus helped those around him.

Well done Year 3, your acting skills are amazing!
