This academic year, our Year 4 children have been proud to take part in our Reading in the Community project at our local care home. Every week, the children have visited the residents to share stories and books that they carefully selected, creating meaningful moments through the joy of reading.
These sessions have been about so much more than books. Through conversations on a wide range of topics, the children and residents have built genuine friendships, bringing together different generations and learning from one another's experiences. It has been wonderful to see the confidence, kindness and empathy shown by everyone involved.
Throughout the project, our Year 4 children have truly embodied our 4Rs: Reflectiveness, Resilience, Reciprocity and Resourcefulness. They have listened thoughtfully, adapted to different situations, built lasting relationships and demonstrated the positive impact that small acts of kindness can have within our community.
Today marked the children's final visit of this academic year, and while we will miss our weekly reading sessions, we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. The staff at both the school and the care home have been delighted to see the special bonds that have developed between the residents and our children.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this wonderful project. Although our visits have come to an end for this year, we have many treasured memories—and some lovely photographs—to remind us of the smiles, stories and friendships we have shared.
