The Roman Empire

On Tuesday, Year 3, started their new History topic, The Roman Empire.

The children began by being reflective learners; through discussion and questioning, they thought about what they already know about the Romans and how this links to their previous learning in History. The children moved on to the invasion of Britain and the importance of the Roman Army, before considering the impact this had on Britain. They then used their resourcefulness skills to design and create their own Roman shield, whilst considering what materials and tools may have been used during this time period and why and how it may link to the previous time periods that they have already studied.

'The Romans used iron to make shields.' - Sultan

'They used their shields to protect themselves from the enemy.' - Amari

'The Roman Army had to go to the toilet together!' - Cruz

Stone Age Wow Day!

The children in Year 3 had the best day when they were transported back to the Stone Age on Tuesday! From the moment they arrived in school they were immersed in activities linked to our History topic, Stone Age.

The children took part in creating cave paintings in the dark, they used their reciprocity skills whilst attempting to make mammoth bones from play dough and drew on their resourcefulness skills when thinking of how to recreate Stonehenge from different materials.

Year 3 - The Stone Age

Year 3
Stone Age to Iron Age

This half term Year 3 have been looking at life accross the Ages. Recently, we looked at how they would create art in caves and we discussed the process they would take to make this artwork. We made predictions with our classmates about the equipment and resources they would have available to use and compared that to what they actually did. After learning how they would use natural resources, we then created our own cave art using sticks, our finger tips and paint. We even completed it in the dark with only a fire for light (however our fire was on YouTube).

''I enjoyed using sticks to create my painting'' - Elliot
''I used small sticks to add lots of detail to my painting'' - Pragya
''They did not get to use paint for their cave art in the Stone Age'' - Rosie

Games with the Greek gods in Year 3!

This week the Year 3's explored the realm of the gods. They learned that the people of Ancient Greece were polytheistic and believed that there was a god for each area of their lives.

Fascination rose as children became top-tier researchers and tried their best to retain the information gleaned from their sources.

'I didn't know Poseidon was the brother of Zeus!' - Bernardo

'Now I know what why Aphrodite has the symbol of an apple! She is my favourite Greek god.' - Faramade

Once the children soaked in as much information about the Greek gods as they could, they teamed up to challenge each other as to who has the most knowledge of the gods.

The room was electric with team work as they assisted each other in getting points for their team by answering the questions.

Year 3's are well on their way to understanding the ways of the Ancient Greeks and we look forward to making connections with how this civilizations has contributed to our modern day civilization.

Viking Day in Year 4! 6.1.2022

What a fantastic way to begin 2022 in Year 4; with a full day of exploring our historical skills and learning more about the daily life of the fearsome Vikings.

We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all parents and families for their extraordinary efforts for this day at such short notice. You are all absolutely wonderful and instrumental in ensuring that we all had a successful day.

The activities ranged from weaving to excavating, painting to candle making, construction to ink making, and even a preparation camp for our legendary battle. The children used their resourceful skills to make the most of their day and to do their best in each workshop and for each task. Most of the teachers had never attempted these skills before and it was very impressive to see how resilient the students were when faced with new adventures.

Here is a snippet of our day for you all to enjoy!
