Year 4 Learning Packs

Dear parents and carers,

Following our calls with you, we have listened to your feedback and will share the links of the Government-approved learning packs.

Click here for a Year 4 pack.
Click here for another Year 4 pack.

There are more packs at this link. You will need to scroll down to 'Select Week' and select a week of your choice. Then the packs will show up on your screen.

We are unsure if they will continue over during the summer holidays but will let you know ASAP if there are other government-approved learning packs that will be made available over the holidays.

All the best,

Year 4 Team

Fresh start for Year 4

Happy Friday children and adults!

Firstly, thank you so much for the excellent work that is happening on Google Classroom. There has been a definite step-up and the quality of your comments, work and craft has been amazing to see! Thank you to all the adults too for your support.

Now, things are going to change around Year 4 from now on...

We are going to post the Weekly Timetable for the coming week on a Friday (to both the Blog and Google Classroom). This means that parents and children can anticipate what's to come for the entire week. This is especially helpful if you do not have 24/7 access to a device and need to work offline sometimes.

Access to Google Classroom is still needed though, as sometimes children will be asked to upload their work or write some comments.

As you can see there are no specific times. This is deliberate because we want your family to work at a pace that is achievable and sustainable. Please do not feel pressured if you do not manage to complete everything! We only ask that your family is happy, healthy and safe during these times.

If you have any questions or would like to provide us some feedback, please email year34@broadford.havering.sch.uk

Thank you so much and have a great weekend!

Year 4 Scientists classifying leaves!

In science, Year 4 are learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. For the past few weeks, our focus has been on classification; creating classification keys to classify different types of plants and animals.

On Tuesday, the children of Ash and Birch explored outside the classroom into Broadford's playground to collect different types of leaves. We are indeed in the middle of winter so it was difficult to find some! We all looked very carefully for leaves on the floor. We then came back inside and worked in pairs to create our classification keys.

We first planned on whiteboards and then drew the classification key on A3 paper. We learned different technical vocabulary, such as lobate, serrate, entire (words that describe the edge of the leaf). We then put this to use for our closed-questions (e.g., Is the edge of the leaf serrated?)

The children worked extremely hard to create their classification key and worked so well in pairs using their reciprocity skills!

Miss Islam and Miss Young are extremely impressed with the amount of scientific enquiry and curiosity in both Birch and Ash!

Year 4 Certificates 10/01/20

Birch

Lily-Ann received the resilience award this week for concentration well in class and trying her very best to answer questions during class room discussions.

Ash
This week, Ash have achieved some excellent work and have been kind to each other in the class. I have also seen an improvement in reciprocity skills across the board! I am so excited to continue the rest of Spring Term on such a high note!

These children were awarded with 100% Attendance for Autumn Term. Well done for not missing a single day!

These children won the 4R awards. Amazing job!
