Welcome to Year 3

 

As the children transition from Year 2 to Year 3, it's time for them to meet their new teachers and prepare themselves to move on to their new classrooms.

Year 3 Certificates

 




It's been a fantastic week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard all week!

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their final topic of Year 3 which focuses on the key features of advertisements. The children began by identifying these features for themselves and discussing the effectiveness of persuasive language. The children then began to plan their own advertisement posters for their 'marvellous medicines', which they will present during Wednesday's lesson next week. Well done Year 3, you have produced some excellent work this year!

In Maths, the children continued to explore durations of time before completing their end of unit tests for this topic. Across the year. the children have worked exceptionally hard to grasp some challenging mathematical concepts and their hard work and determination should be congratulated. Well done Year 3!

Year 3 Certificates

 



It's been another fantastic week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and making excellent progress in their learning!

In Literacy, the children have continued to explore their current topic, script writing. 
They began the week by identifying the key features of a script in groups using a highlighter, before changing a piece of the text from 'George's Marvellous Medicine' into a script independently. 
Finally, the children performed their scripts to the class remembering to use the correct volume, tone, facial expressions and body movements. Well done Year 3!

In Maths, Year 3 continued exploring the topic of time by calculating the duration between one given time and another. The children then timed themselves completing various activities, such as writing the alphabet on their whiteboards three times, before converting the given minutes and seconds into seconds. We are sure that the children had a wonderful time completing this activity!

Year 3 Certificates

 


It's been another wonderful week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and making excellent progress in their learning!

In Literacy, the children began looking at their new topic, script writing. 
They began the week by identifying the key features of a script in groups using a highlighter, before changing a piece of the text from 'George's Marvellous Medicine' into a script independently. 
The children then used their knowledge of script writing to produce a shared write example of a script with their teachers.

In Maths, Year 3 were exploring their new topic of time by using small clocks to assist their knowledge of counting in intervals of five and one. The children worked well, successfully grasping the tricky concept of 'past' and 'to'.

Year 3 Certificates

 



Well done Year 3 on a fantastic week 3 at school! 

This week in Literacy we have continued creating our own shape poems. We worked as a class to share rhyming words, alliteration, repetition and onomatopoeia. Then, we independently planned these to support us in creating our own shape poems based on Georges Marvellous Medicine. 

In Math, we have moved onto a new topic - time! We learned our roman numerals up to 12, refreshed our memory on o' clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to and began telling the time to 5 minutes. We have loved using the clocks to support us in our learning.

Year 3 Certificates 23.05.25

 



This week, The pupils in Year 3 have been working hard to complete their units of work.

In Literacy, pupils have used descriptive phrases to independently create their own version of      'Stone Age Boy' . 

In Math, we have been working hard to complete our fractions unit. We found fractions of amounts and completed reasoning questions to deepen our understanding. 

This half term in science, we have been experimenting with magnets and forces! We investigates the poles on magnets and predicted if they would repel or attract. We also experimented with friction, testing for high and low friction on different surfaces using ramps and toy cars.

Year 3 Certificates

 


In Maths, we have been using our knowledge of fractions to find unit and non unit fractions of an amount. The pupils are really enjoying using counters and sharing them to help them answer different sums. 


In Literacy, we have continued with our topic focusing on performance poetry. This week, the children came up with a poem all about holidays using onomatopoeia, rhyming words and alliteration. The children then had the opportunity to perform their poems to their peers.

Year 3 Certificates

 




Well done to year 3 on another great week. 


We have had an incredibly fun week as yesterday, we celebrated world book day. Everyone in year 3 had a fantastic day celebrating reading! The children took part in a variety of different activities throughout the day including designing their own book marks, reviewing their favourite books, going on a book search and lots and lots of reading!


In Maths this week we have continued our work with length and perimeter. The children have been learning to convert different units of measure to solve tricky problems.. In Literacy, we have spent the week planning and writing our own newspaper reports about the tremors caused by Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii, ensuring to include all of the correct features.


A huge well done to this week's certificate winners for continuing to shine bright.

Year 3 Certificates

Well done Year 3

It's been another wonderful week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children have been learning about the features of a newspaper and have used this knowledge to plan and write their own articles. The articles were based around the King and his decision to ban the dark. Well done Year 3!

In Maths, the children completed their end of unit test for addition and subtraction and moved on to their new unit of multiplication and division. The children had lots of fun using their whiteboards and counters to create equal groups before using their times table knowledge to help them answer some questions. Great work everybody!

Year 3 Certificates




It's been another wonderful week of learning in Year 3.and this is what we have been learning about this week. 


In Literacy, the children started the week by completing an edit and evaluate session focused on their letter responses as the King. The children then planned and produced a persuasive speech which was designed to set out the reasons why the King should ban the dark.  

In Maths, the children continued to extend their knowledge of addition and subtraction using the column method. The children were able to add and subtract two numbers whilst crossing hundreds. Great work Year 3!

Year 3 Certificates

 


It's been another wonderful week of learning in Year 3.and this is what we have been learning about this week. 

In Literacy, the children started the week by writing a letter to the King who banned the dark. In the letter the children offered suggestions to help the King overcome his fear of the dark. They had lots of great and useful ideas and applied the features of letter writing effectively in their writing. The children then went on to plan a second letter which sought to convince the King of all the reasons why the dark should be banned. It's been a busy week! Well done Year 3

In Maths, the children continued to extend their knowledge of addition and subtraction using the column method. The children were able to add and subtract whilst crossing tens and hundreds. Excellent work Year 3!

Year 3 Certificates

 



It's been another wonderful week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and have made excellent progress in their learning. 

In Literacy, the children suggested ways to help their partner overcome their fear of the dark. They then created an adverb word bank to help them improve their writing of a letter to the King. This letter suggested ways that the King could overcome his fear of the dark. 


In Maths,  the children built upon their existing knowledge of the column method. They worked on questions which involved adding and subtraction 2 numbers with no exchange. It was wonderful to see the children bursting with pride at their progress in this area. Well done!

Year 3 Certificates

 

It's been another wonderful week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and have made excellent progress in their learning. 

In Literacy, the children were introduced to their new book for this half term 'The King who banned the dark'. The children used their inference skills to predict what would happen in the story, before forming questions about the story that they would like to find the answer to by the end of this half term. Excellent work Year 3!

In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of adding and subtracting across ones, tens and hundreds. The children were able to draw number lines in their books to help them answer some tricky questions. Well done Year 3.

Year 3 Certificates

 



It's been an excellent week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard across all of their subjects to make progress in their learning before the Half Term break.

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to write an alternative story as part of an independent piece of writing. It was lovely to see so many children using their imagination to bring these alternative stories to life whilst also ensuring that they challenge themselves to use expanded noun phrases, inverted commas and paragraphs effectively in their writing. 

In Maths, the children have been learning to add and subtract ones across a ten using the steps to success to aid their learning. They then applied this knowledge to adding and subtracting across a hundred to great effect. Super job Year 3!

Year 3 Certificates


 



It's been a wonderful week in Year 3 and the children have been working hard across all of their subjects to make progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to write an alternative story as part of a shared write. It was lovely to see so many children using their imagination to bring these alternative stories to life, whilst also ensuring that they use inverted commas and paragraphs effectively in their writing. Well done Year 3!

In Maths, the children have been learning to add and subtract ones across a ten using the steps to success to aid their learning. It can be difficult for the children to follow the steps at first, but after some practice they were able to work independently to add and subtract ones across a ten. Year 3 have definitely demonstrated resilience this week in Maths.

Certificates Year 3

 



It's been another excellent week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and have made excellent progress in their learning. 

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to write a plan for an alternative story. The children created their own characters and chose their own settings for this piece of writing and it was excellent to see their imagination and creativity in their work. 

In Maths, the children have been using dienes to add two numbers together. It was important that the children could identify whether a number should be added or taken away from the hundreds, tens or ones column. Well done Year 3!
