Here is the Year 3 team for 2025/26
Ash Class Teacher - Mr Cardwell
It's been a fantastic week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard all week!
In Literacy, the children were introduced to their final topic of Year 3 which focuses on the key features of advertisements. The children began by identifying these features for themselves and discussing the effectiveness of persuasive language. The children then began to plan their own advertisement posters for their 'marvellous medicines', which they will present during Wednesday's lesson next week. Well done Year 3, you have produced some excellent work this year!
In Maths, the children continued to explore durations of time before completing their end of unit tests for this topic. Across the year. the children have worked exceptionally hard to grasp some challenging mathematical concepts and their hard work and determination should be congratulated. Well done Year 3!

This week in Literacy we have continued creating our own shape poems. We worked as a class to share rhyming words, alliteration, repetition and onomatopoeia. Then, we independently planned these to support us in creating our own shape poems based on Georges Marvellous Medicine.
In Math, we have moved onto a new topic - time! We learned our roman numerals up to 12, refreshed our memory on o' clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to and began telling the time to 5 minutes. We have loved using the clocks to support us in our learning.

We have had an incredibly fun week as yesterday, we celebrated world book day. Everyone in year 3 had a fantastic day celebrating reading! The children took part in a variety of different activities throughout the day including designing their own book marks, reviewing their favourite books, going on a book search and lots and lots of reading!
In Maths this week we have continued our work with length and perimeter. The children have been learning to convert different units of measure to solve tricky problems.. In Literacy, we have spent the week planning and writing our own newspaper reports about the tremors caused by Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii, ensuring to include all of the correct features.

In Literacy, the children suggested ways to help their partner overcome their fear of the dark. They then created an adverb word bank to help them improve their writing of a letter to the King. This letter suggested ways that the King could overcome his fear of the dark.
In Maths, the children built upon their existing knowledge of the column method. They worked on questions which involved adding and subtraction 2 numbers with no exchange. It was wonderful to see the children bursting with pride at their progress in this area. Well done!

It was lovely to see so many children using their imagination to bring these alternative stories to life whilst also ensuring that they challenge themselves to use expanded noun phrases, inverted commas and paragraphs effectively in their writing.
In Maths, the children have been learning to add and subtract ones across a ten using the steps to success to aid their learning. They then applied this knowledge to adding and subtracting across a hundred to great effect. Super job Year 3!
