Junior Duke Award application form

 Dear Parent/Guardians,

To encourage independence, confidence, resilience and self - motivation, our school is once again running the Junior Duke Award Scheme for our Year 3 children following the success of our first cohort last year. This award is aimed at helping children learn and practise a large variety of life skills.

Our Year 3 children will be completing the Bronze level of this award. Each of the levels has a selection of challenges and, in order to complete a level, the children need to finish a pre - determined number of these successfully. These include skills such as First Aid, ICT, Eco awareness, Cookery, Drama, Music and Sport.  These challenges are completed in school, at home and in the local area.

On completion of a level, a well-earned certificate and badge will be awarded.

The children will need to commit to attending the sessions every week, and be prepared to do the work that is required at home before the next session.

If your child would like to take part, please complete the Google form by Midnight on Friday 15th September.

There will be a cost of £5 to cover the booklet, badges and certificates.

We only have 14 places available and will let you know during the week beginning 18th September if your child has been given a place.

This award will be led by Miss Float and Mrs Stanley.

Sessions will take place every Friday, starting on Friday 22nd September and will last for approximately 17 weeks. Sessions will run from 3.20 until 4.30

Super Scientists in Year 3!

This week in Year 3 the children continued with their science topic 'Light'. The children investigated different materials and made predictions of which materails they thouhgt were the most reflective and why. All the children made a reflection tester and worked in pairs to test out their predictions. The children then reflected on their predictions and explained why reflective materials are useful. The children were extremly resourceful and made links between their ideas and capitalised on their resources.

"The foil paper is most reflective, as its smooth and shiny!" Scarlett

" Road signs are made from retro reflective materials!" Faramade

"Bumpy materials are not as reflective as smooth !" Zuriel

Dads and Kids Sports' Night

A Great Evening!

What a fabulous turnout to our 'Sports' Night' held at Broadford last night. A huge thanks to all the dads, granddads and uncles that came along to support the event; your enthusiasm and light - hearted competitiveness was a joy to watch. Teamwork in sports allows everyone to work together to achieve a common goal - the goal last night was to spend quality time together and have fun - that was certainly achieved! We couldn't have asked for better weather, which made the event all the more enjoyable.

We look forward to organising more evening events throughout the year.

Many thanks to Richard Shorter for organising the event.

The Big Pedal Is Over!

Enormous congratulations and thank you to everyone who cycled or scooted to school over the past two weeks.

I am pleased to announce that within the Greater London area we placed 61st out of 121. This includes schools that are within London and Essex, and as far afield as Surrey, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

Nationally Broadford Primary School came 602nd out of a massive 1056 schools.

Over the two weeks 23% of our pupils made 951 journeys on bicycles and scooters.

Well done to everyone for choosing a more sustainable mode of travel to school and reducing your carbon footprint.

You should all feel very proud of yourself.

It always seems impossible until it is done.

The Big Pedal 2014

A massive well done to everyone who contributed to making 1 million journeys to school during this year's Big Pedal. All of the journeys have now been logged and are still being counted up! Results will be available after 3.30pm today.

This is a new record, so every school, pupil, parent and staff member should be really proud.

Look out for Broadford’s results tomorrow. Thank to everyone who took part.

The Big Pedal Starts on Monday 3rd March

Get set … the Big Pedal starts on Monday!

If you are taking part this is what you have to do.

Ride your bike or scooter to school wearing your helmet. When you arrive at school walk your wheels to the storage facilities and lock them up. If the storage is full you will be able to walk your wheels and store them outside your classroom.

You can earn house points for your team as well as points towards the school’s big pedal results!

Enjoy the ride!
