They should all be proud of their hard work!

In Maths, the children have continued with our money topic. They have been learning how to add and subtract different amounts of money, as well as using part whole models and number lines to support their learning - great work Year 3!

What a fabulous week, we have had in Year 3!

The children completed their independent write in Literacy informing others how to look after and care for their chosen pet, by writing their very own fact files.

In Maths, we have been continuing with mass and capacity, adding and subtracting different volumes, which has been tricky for many of the children, but as always, they have demonstrated great resilience to keep on trying to problem solve.

We also had a wonderful time creating, making and baking our very own healthy muffins in DT. The children got to use their new skills to chop, grate, slice and peel the fruit. We finished by tasting and evaluating our delicious, healthy treats!

It has been a very busy week and the children have all been superstars. This week's certificate winners are;

E for Excellence: Noah, Isabelle, Tommy

It's been another excellent week of learning in Year 3 and the children have been working hard and have made excellent progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children used their knowledge of our story for this half term, 'A Tale of Two Robots', to write a plan for an alternative story. The children created their own characters and chose their own settings for this piece of writing and it was excellent to see their imagination and creativity in their work.

In Maths, the children have been using dienes to add two numbers together. It was important that the children could identify whether a number should be added or taken away from the hundreds, tens or ones column. Well done Year 3!

Year 3 Certificates

It's been a wonderful week of learning in year 3, here's what we have been learning about this week.

In Maths, the children completed their learning on fractions and began to explore mass and capacity. As part of this, we estimated the mass of an ingredient and then checked if we were correct by using scales. We then measured out ingredients using the scales, allowing the children to become familiar with how we measure the mass of an object. Well done everyone, this was such a fun lesson!

In Literacy, the children planned and then completed their independent writing task on the topic of the devastating events that famously destroyed Pompeii.  The children used their plans and a tick sheet to support them and were challenged to write in paragraphs, use the correct tense and use inverted commas correctly. All of the Year 3 teachers are proud of your efforts!

This week was British Science Week at Broadford Primary School and the children were focused on the topic of time. Each child recorded their resting pulse before competing in a running race and then recording their pulse after exercise. It was interesting to discuss and identify the factors which affected each child's differing results. Well done to everyone for taking part, you are all super scientists!

This week's certificate winners are...

E for Excellence - Hussain, Anya and Teddy.

Star Writer - James, Rio and Abrish.

4 R's - Kayden & Ahmad, Isabella and Lucas.

Year 3 certificate blog

We have had a fantastic week in year 3 this week and started looking at some different topics in Maths and Literacy.

In Maths, year 3 have moved into our new topic of multiplication and division with such confidence! We have revised our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and began looking at grouping and sharing. It has been great to see the children use so many different objects to support them with their learning. Well done everyone!

In Literacy, although we are continuing with the book 'The King Who Banned the Dark', we are shifting our focus from persuasive writing to writing our own newspaper report. To make this possible we have been learning all about how to use third person, past tense and the 5 W's. Our budding news reporters are doing fantastic work - keep it up!

The children have also continued to work hard to polish off their lines and show off their beautiful singing for our Christmas concert next week! The concert is looking amazing and the children can not wait to share their amazing talent to their grown ups on Monday.

Let's give our certificate winners a huge well done!
