Magnificent Mini Medics in Year 3

Year 3 have had the fantastic opportunity to learn Mini Medics First Aid! All three classes have experienced a fun filled day of learning all about First Aid and how to help others when they are injured. They started by looking at what is First Aid? What are in First Aid kits and important things to know about First Aid. The children were amazing at identifying where our First Aid bags are kept in class and where we should go to replenish any items needed.

After this, they moved on to learning about DR ABC. This is a little acronym for them to understand the different parts of helping someone who is injured.

D - dangers

R - response

A - airway

B - breathing

C - CPR

This helped them to develop their understanding of dangers and hazards around us, especially electricity and how to approach someone if they are in danger. The children now know how to see if someone can respond to them, to check their airways and breathing which would then lead to calling 999 or 111 in emergencies if they are not responding or breathing.

If this is the case, they begin to perform CPR! This was very hands on for the children, they were able to use Annes to practice and counted up to 30 times when completing their chest compressions.

After this, they carefully listened to instructions on how to attach a defibrillator and what to do, how to put someone in the recovery position, how to help someone who is choking, how to apply bandages, how to help someone having an asthma attack and if someone suffers from shock. Wow, what a lot of fascinating and interesting topics to learn about!

A huge well done to Year 3! They all demonstrated fantastic reciprocity skills with their partners and super resourcefulness skills.

Y4 Fantastic Footballers

A fantastic group of Year 4 pupils recently took part in a highly competitive tournament, joining dozens of schools from across Havering. Their performance was nothing short of outstanding, not only for their skill and determination but also for their exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork.

From the very first whistle, these young athletes demonstrated true grit, supporting one another, lifting each other's spirits, and showing respect to their opponents. With every pass, goal, and cheer, they embodied the values of fair play and unity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Their remarkable team spirit made them true champions, both on and off the field!  Well done, boys!

Looking for Local Landmarks

On Wednesday 15th May, the Year 3 children went on a walk to identify local landmarks. Linking to our Geography topic, the children had to use their reflectiveness skills to revise ideas and discuss their learning, to draw on their prior knowledge of what human and physical features are. They then had to identify human and physical features within the environment, using their reciprocity skills to work with their peers.
The walk was a lovely way to enhance our learning in Year 3.

'Fields are a physical feature.' - Thomas

'We didn't see any features that were both physical and human.' - Ava

Super Survival Skills!

On Friday, the Year 3 children put their survival skills to the test by taking on the very dangerous terrain also known as the school field!
They had to display resilience, resourcefulness, reciprocity and reflectiveness to ensure that they could survive in the wild.
The children had to work together to solve the first problem of how to make a fire and what resources they would need. After mastering task 1 it was swiftly on to the next challenge - how to build a shelter, the children demonstrated great reciprocity during this task as well as using their resourcefulness skills to locate materials and then build a shelter that would protect them from the elements. The last challenge that awaited the children, was working out which plants, flowers and berries would be safe to eat and which would make them poorly. They demonstrated great reflectiveness skills during this part of the challenge, planning carefully using the key and plant guide and discussing their learning with their peers.

We are very proud of the children, and of how committed they all were to complete each of the challenges. Well done Year 3, you are all super survival skill specialists!

Christmas Cards for the Community

As part of the children's experiences at Broadford, we have had a busy afternoon in Year 3, designing and creating Christmas cards for the community. This year, we have chosen to send the Christmas cards to the lovely patients at King Georges Hospital, who will be receiving them early next week.

The children were very excited to make their cards and send them to the hospital, they have used their resourcefulness skills to ensure that they have included colourful, cheerful designs and they worked exceptionally hard on their handwriting and spellings.

Year 3 - Colchester Zoo!

Today, year 3 visited Colchester Zoo and we had a brilliant day visiting all of the animals. We were lucky enough to see sea lions being fed, giraffes, elephants, lions, monkeys and more! Some of us were able to hold stick insects, walk amongst the goats and take a walk down to the flamingos. After stopping for lunch, we continued on our journey to ensure we explored the whole zoo including the llamas and alpacas, tortoises and chimpanzees. We represented the school amazingly; we were kind and polite to everyone we saw and tried out best to learn as many new facts as we could. We showed reciprocity by working together to see if we were stronger than an elephant! Thank you to all of our helpers for ensuring we made it around the zoo safely and we can't wait to share everything we did with you all at home.

Year 3 Egyptian WOW Day!

Egyptian WOW Day

Today, Year 3 had the opportunity to come to school dressed like Egyptians and dive into what life was like for them many years ago. We started by taking a look at when the ancient Egyptian civilisation began, how you could become King and what was special about Tutankhamun. We then learnt why the Egyptians would mummify their Pharaohs before using our reciprocity skills to mummify each other! We ended our amazing day using by being resourceful and creating our own Cartouche using a hieroglyphic word mat and then hunted for key vocabulary in a word search .
