Perfect Poetry in Year 3

The Year 3 children have been having a fabulous time, immersing themselves in our poetry topic. After learning all about the features of different poetry, we introduced the children to a selection of Michael Rosen poems, which they found hilarious!

The children then used their reflectiveness skills to create their own poems in the style of Michael Rosen's poem, Down Behind the Dustbin. Next, we moved on to discussing and exploring different shape poems, after spending some time being resourceful and experimenting with different shape poems, the children had a go at writing a shape poem of their own about Mount Vesuvius, which linked with our Literacy text.

The children finished their poetry topic with outstanding performances of The Boneyard Rap by Wes Magee, which was some of the best performances that the Year 3 staff have ever seen!

It was so much fun learning poetry - Miraz

My favourite poem was 'Down Behind the Dustbin' because it was so funny - Billie

"I love poetry." - Annabel

"That was so much fun!" - Elyakim

Year 3 Geography Walk Reminder

We're going on a geography hunt!

As part of our Geography topic this half term, on the 30th March,  Year 3 will be going on a local walk around Harold Hill to locate and record physical and human features within our community.

The classes will be staggered and the times that they will leave the school are as follows:
Cedar - 9.30
Elm - 10.00
Cherry - 10.30

Could you please provide your child/ren with suitable clothing on the day. If it is raining the walk will still go ahead but your child/ren will require a raincoat and suitable footwear.

Year 3 Certificates 25.03.22

This week has been an exciting week in year 3! They have continues with their length and perimeter topic in Maths, learning how to convert metres, centimeters and millimeters.

In Literacy, the children have had a fun week of poetry, learning all about the features of different styles of poems and finishing with performing their own poetry in groups.

As always, it has been so tricky to pick just a few children to give awards to as all of our children have worked incredibly hard, but we do have our week 5 certificate winners.

Year 4's wonderful writers!

This week Year 4 have been writing a next episode to our story, There's a boy in the girls bathroom. The children have been working hard to include dialogue that moves the story on and have been using varied sentence structures. Three children from each class were then chosen to read their work to another class and teacher. The children loved sharing their writing with others and read with get tone and expression. Well done Year 4 for a successful week of writing!

Year 3's Magnificent Measurements!

This week, year 3 have been exploring length and perimeter. On Monday, they developed their understanding of measuring using metre sticks! They explored how they would use metre sticks by going outside and looking at different objects inside the classroom to investigate which objects they would measure using a metre stick. They began to understand that they would use metre sticks for larger objects and used their reflectiveness skills to compare metre sticks with rulers. We then looked at how we can use metres and centimeters together when measuring their height! They worked in groups to measure each other's height and used their skills from their statistic lessons to create a table to record their data.

'We use metre sticks for larger objects like a table in class.' - Larissa

'We use rulers for smaller items like rubbers and pencils.' - Asher

'It was fun to measure each other and compare our heights!' - Karimah

Next week, they will continue to consolidate their understanding of length and perimeter and when they come back in Summer, they will move on to fun fractions!

Science Week - Year 4 and Reception

This Year's Science Week theme was GROWTH. Year 4 and Reception were buddy classes during Science Week last week and had such a great time learning together!

Activity 1: The children from Year 4 came down to Reception to measure the difference between their feet and hands. The children in Year 4 were paired up with children in Reception and they supported the children with drawing around the outside of their feet/hands and counting along a ruler.

The children in Year 4 then recorded their data ready to graph and analyze!

On Red Nose Day, in partnership with Science Week, the buddy classes met up again for a mile run in the sunshine! The Reception children sure put the Year 4's in their paces as they sped around the field.

A Reception Scientist was around to help out!

'I loved having a buddy in Reception, it was great fun!' Isla, Larch

'It's funny how people grow at completely different rates, you could be in Reception and have bigger feet than someone in Year 4!' David, Ash

Well done to both Reception and Year 4 for a great, fun filled, Science Week!
