Sequoia's 'Eggsperiment' - The results!

This morning, Sequoia class entered a rather smelly classroom but they weren't phased as they were too excited, waiting in anticipation for the results of our investigation.  So, does toothpaste really protect our teeth?

First, they looked at the egg which had been covered in toothpaste. After tapping it and rolling it, the shell seemed to stay intact. Then, they looked at the egg which had been in vinegar without any toothpaste on it. The egg shell definitely wasn't as strong and it made quite a mess!

We found that if toothpaste can protect our teeth as well as it protected the eggs, we definitely should be using it! We then discussed if we could have changed the experiment in any way. We had some brilliant suggestions!

"I think it would be good to add a control to the experiment and have an extra egg without any toothpaste on, in no liquid. It would be interesting to see what happened!" Amandeep, Sequoia

"If I did the experiment again, I think I would use an alkali and see if that has the same effect on the eggshells," Phoebe, Sequoia

Great investigative work, Sequoia!
