Mia tackles the Toucan

This term, Willow class are studying the rainforest for their topic. Specifically, the children are researching 'Why are animals in the rainforest becoming endangered?' Extending her learning at home, Mia produced a wonderful poster vouching for the world to save the Toucan, as she explained to Willow that they are becoming endangered- something that we hope to change. As you can see, she has produced a colourful, eye catching and formative poster below. Keep up the great work Mia!

Last week, Caydon Buckland produced a clear and detailed set of instructions, fit for an alien, based on how to light a sparkler. Caydon was able to use a range of appropriate adverbials of time, used adverbs and extended his sentences using conjunctions so that his reader could ignite a firework with ease. Caydon particularly liked his instruction 'Next, sensibly ask a responsible adult to light your sparkler making sure you are standing in a safe place' as he had used an adverbial of time and an adverb, which made it a clear instruction for his reader to follow. Fantastic work Caydon, keep up the great work and your remarkable attitude towards learning :)

A poet and she doesn't even know it... Jessica Simpson!

This half-term in Literacy, Willow class are studying the magic box poem and will eventually create their own imaginative, creative and absolutely bizarre version of the poem. Ensuring she produces the best possible poem, Jessica has challenged herself by creating her own sentences at home, including: onomatopoeia, personification, similes, repetition and alliteration (the specific poetic devices we will be using). I can not wait to read your final version of the poem Jessica, keep up the great work!

Today, Willow class had the honour of viewing some fine pieces of art work created at home by our own little Van Gogh, otherwise known as Caydon Buckland. Caydon produced 6 different drawings, two of my favourite being his depictions of Horrid Henry (the book we are reading in class) characters.  It is wonderful to see you carrying out extra work at home and showcasing your talents! I (and the whole of Willow) look forward to seeing more!

Year 3 Spellings- W/C 7.11.16

Below are the Year 3 spellings for the this week.

Students are highly encouraged to practice their spellings at least 15 minutes a day. In order to get merit stickers, students are also encouraged to search for definitions of the words and write the last 5 words into meaningful sentences. Good Luck!

Year 3's WOW day!

To introduce Year 3's topic 'Who first lived in Britain?' the children were lucky enough to experience a WOW day where they travelled back in time to see how it might have felt to live as early man did in the Stone Age.

They faced the wild outdoors and foraged and hunted for their food.

They worked hard to use cave art to tell stories about their life and decorate their otherwise cold, unwelcoming homes.

They even positioned themselves whilst painting in ways they might if they were actually in a cave!

The children's creative skills didn't stop there! They were also able to make genuine Stone Age bracelets!

"I loved the tooth I made using clay for my bracelet!" Grace, Hazel.

"It was so cool that we painted under the tables like we were in an actual cave, it was pretty hard though!" Fayo, Sequoia.

"I loved pretending to be a caveman, hunting wild animals using a wooden spear!" Alfie, Sequoia

Armani used a range of sensual descriptions to conjure up an authentic account of the market on a Saturday morning. After seeing his sister with her Star Writer certificate, Armani's brother cried out, 'I knew she was going to earn a certificate today!' You were right, Bobby!
