Yesterday, Key Stage 2 were incredibly fortunate to have 'The Beatbox Collective' visit for the day. Each year group had the opportunity to work with the professional beatboxers and were able to learn some impressive skills!
"It was cool because we were learning a new skill. Fredy is talented at beat boxing and taight us how to create our own beatbox sounds," Isaac, Redwood.
The children were so excited to hear the performers freestyle and make music without any instruments.
"It sounded like a whole band was playing even though it was just Fredy and the microphone!" Fayo, Sequoia.
The children had the opportunity to play a range of games including 'guess the sound' and 'musical statues'. Some were even lucky enough to hear MC Fredy beatbox whilst playing the harmonica! (check out the Facebook page for the video).

Willow class star writer
This week in Willow, our star writer is the incredible Finley Livingstone. Although Finley is an extremely capable writer, after examining his progress test, it is evident that Finley has exceeded himself, steering clear of the 'Lazy writing' bracket. Indepently, our own little author, managed to produce an incredible story based on Space in 2117. Successfully, Finley incorporated a range of sentence types, ensured he used a range of adverbials to add variety to his writing and strived to embed a range of descriptive techniques throughout, including similes, metaphors and personification. Outstanding writing Finley, that's what I like to see... 24K Magic! Keep it up :)

Year 3 visit 'The Orbit'
Year 3 had a lovely day visiting The Orbit in Stratford. All the children were very brave and we made it all the way up to the top where there was an amazing view of London. The children could spot The Shard, The West Ham Stadium, The Gherkin, The o2, The BT Tower and The London Eye. We all then made our way down the Orbit (via the stairs) where we ate our lunch on the hill overlooking The Orbit. As the weather turned out to be so nice, we also got to enjoy ourselves and play in one of the parks.

Tongue twisters in Year 3
Year 3's tongues were tied in Literacy this morning as they tried to perform a range of tricky tongue twisters as part of their new poetry unit. They realised that the faster they read them, the harder it was!
Year 3 Learning Challenge - Summer 1
Please find Year 3's Learning Challenge for Summer 1 below. It would be great to see as many of the children complete this as possible.

‘The Drop’ – Albert Richards
Poem- ‘Soldier's Farewell’ (Mike Subritzky)
I've saddled up, and
dropped me hooch,
I'm going to take the gap,
my Tour of Duty's over mates,
and I won't be coming back.
I'm done with diggin' shell scrapes
and laying out barbed wire,
I'm sick of setting Claymore Mines,
and coming under fire.
So no more Fire Support Base,
and no more foot patrols,
and no more eating ration packs,
and sleepin' in muddy holes.
I've fired my last machine gun,
and ambushed my last track,
I'm sick of all the Army brass,
and I sure ain't coming back.
I'll hand my bayonet to the clerk,
he ain't seen one before,
and clean my rifle one more time,
and return it to the store.
So no more spit and polish,
and make sure I get paid,
and sign me from the Regiment,
today's my last parade.
I'm going to take the gap,
my Tour of Duty's over mates,
and I won't be coming back.
I'm done with diggin' shell scrapes
and laying out barbed wire,

Willow class star writer
This week, our star writer is the absolutely phenomenal, the one and only... Libby Northwood. Libby has created an amazing, publishable worth futuristic story. I was particularly impressed with the build up she created, which she was able to do without any adult supervision. Although I modelled on the board, she steered clear from my example, adding her own flare and independently challenging herself to produce an amazing piece of writing. She included a 2 pair, a range of adverbials, similes, and I particularly like the metaphor she also managed to include to describe the robot... A pile of metal! Keep it up Libby, a pleasure to read :)
