Year 4 Christmas Carol Service

We warmly invite you to join Year 4 for a Christmas celebration on Monday 17th December at  St Georges church, Harold Hill.

The service last year was a huge success and we are very excited about working alongside our local parish again. The children have all worked very hard during the preparations over the last few weeks.

After school on Monday 17th December, we would like all the children in Year 4 to stay in school so that we can walk to the church together and make sure everyone is prepared and ready.  We will provide a hot meal and refreshments before the church service for all the children.

We would love to see as many of the family members there as possible. If you are able to attend, please arrive at St George’s Church, Hilldene by 4.45pm.  If you are unable to attend, please ensure somebody is able to collect your child at 6.00pm.

We look forward to welcoming you to this event and would like to thank you for your continuing support.
Yours sincerely,
 Miss Estall & Miss Hamlin

Year 4 - Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime

Year 4 - Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime
We are delighted to inform you that a trip has been booked for our Year 4 children. The trip will allow the children to experience a pantomime at the Queen’s theatre. The Jack and the Beanstalk production has sparkling sets, colourful costumes, tunes that everyone knows, lots of laughter and most importantly plenty of audience participation.
The Year 4 children will be visiting the Queen’s theatre on Tuesday 18th December 2018, the performance will begin at 10:00am. All children should be in school by 8:45am as we will be leaving at 9:15am. We expect to arrive back at school at approximately 1.00pm so the children will need to either bring in a packed lunch or order a School packed lunch.
The children will be travelling via coach to the Queen’s theatre and will be returning by bus. The children will be accompanied by teachers and support staff from the school.
The trip costs £1812 in total for the Year 4 classes at Mead and Broadford Primary School. We are asking for a contribution of £10 per child to cover part of the pantomime performance and the coach. Please make your contributions on sQuid. If you have any questions or queries about payment, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Year 3 - Stay and Learn

Wow, what an amazing turn out for the Year 3 Stay and Learn! Thank you to all of the parents and carers who took the time to come in this morning.  Across the two classes we had a total of twenty-six visitors! Also a big thank you to all of the parents who took the time to complete the parental survey, we always value your feedback, so that we know how best to move forward. If you didn't complete the survey and would like to, please see your class teacher and they will be able to help you.

Today's focus was of course Math's. We hope you found it useful and interesting to see the kinds of games we play with the children to help consolidate those basic mathematical skills, hopefully you got some ideas on how to support your children at home.

The Stay and Learn's take place each half term, I know you were given the dates at the beginning of the year but just as a reminder to put in your diary
The next two dates are
Tuesday 29th January and Thursday 21st March 9 am (Details to follow)

Year 3 & 4 House Netball Competition

The Year 3 and 4 children showed great resilience today when some of them volunteered to take part in a inter-house netball tournament.  The rest of the children were very supportive as they cheered their peers on.  Congratulations to the Green Team for winning overall!

Year 4 Children in Need

Wow! What a wonderful Friday we had raising money for Children in Need. Students in Ash and Birch showed their support by dressing up in yellow or polka dot clothes, and there were many Pudsey ears worn! In the morning we were busy making Fairy Bread to sell at the Teddy Bear Afternoon Tea, which was a total hit with the crowd.

Then, Ash and Birch used their reciprocity skills and faced off in a coin race of pennies, and while Birch won the longest line in year 4, both classes brought in bags and bags of coins to donate to Children in Need.

Throughout the day the children watched a number of appeal videos to get a greater understanding of where their donations were going. After lunch we wrote messages of thanks and support to the Children in Need foundation, with students demonstrating reflectiveness in regards to the important work they do.

Then was time for the 'dress the teacher' competition, with both classes using recyclable materials (and anything else in the classroom) to decorate Miss Estall and Miss Hamlin.

Thank you for all of your generous donations, it was heart-warming to see and hear the children wanted to give smooch to those in need.

Anti-Bullying Week In Year 4

This week was anti-bullying week and to mark the occasion the children in Year 4 spent some time going through and signing our anti-bulling contract. We spoke about the impact of our actions upon others and defined what buying behaviour might look like. The children were very reflective and understood how bullying can take many different forms.

We also enjoyed a theatre performance of 'The B-word' which delivered a strong message about the effects of bullying. We ended the week by watching some impact videos whereby other children and parents shared their stories and experiences of bullying- some with devastating conseqences. This really hit home with the children and inspired them to  create a pledge to choose respect and 'do more nice things more often'.

I am going to try and make sure I say something nice to someone each day, just because it will make them feel good - Jessica

I am going to make sure I ask someone to play if I see them looking sad - Summer

It's made me remember that sometimes you say something and think its a joke but it actually might hurt someones feelings.  - Maisy

Remember: choose respect
