Year 3 visit a volcano!

Today Year 3 were lucky enough to experience a 360 degree VR (virtual reality) workshop.

This linked to our topic of Volcanoes and Earthquakes in Geography, as the children were able to see different volcanoes through their headset!

The children were also given a boarding pass from the session on which they could write down anything they learned.

Charlie said “I can see everything in clear detail!”
Naiara said “I was seeing grass and rock!”

Internet Safety Day 2020

Internet Safety Day 2020 at Broadford!

We celebrated Internet Safety Day at Broadford with some great in class discussions about keeping safe online, and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were treated to fantastic presentations from our digital leaders.

In class, the rest of the school completed activities that reinforced ideas about how to act online and how best to keep safe.

Please keep these discussions going at home!

Building Rectilinear Shapes

This week in year 4, children have been building rectilinear shapes with multi-link cubes. They also created a drawing based on the shape they made and worked out the area. Children have been counting squares to work out the area of a shape. They have applied the traditional method of working out the area of a shape (length x width).

Furthermore, children understand why it is important to work out the area of a shape. For example, Jersey was able to explain that it is important to know the size of a bedroom so that a person can order the furniture that will fit in their room. She also explained that if someones bedroom is too small then they cannot order a king size bed.

Well done year 4!
