Year 3 Certificates

Wow! We have had another fantastic week of learning in Year 3. All of the children truly impress us every single day with their continued effort in their work, their presentation skills and ability to focus.

In Maths this week, we have continued with our Fractions topic, we have looked at unit fractions and have been consolidating our knowledge of quarter, halves and a whole.

We have had exciting Literacy lessons, beginning by drawing and annotating our story maps before moving on to character descriptions, role play, hot seating and finally making our own time capsules for both the Stone Age and modern day.

In Science, the children have continued investigating and exploring different types of rocks and have even made their very own rocks!

As always, it has been another eventful week full of learning, exploring and investigating. All of the children have been super engaged and focused, which always makes our job of choosing the certificate winners tricky, but here we have our week 2 super stars:

Year 3's Super Starburst Rocks!

Super Starburst Rocks!

In Science this term, Year 3 are learning all about the Earths rocks. They have investigated the different types of rocks and today, they have developed their understanding of the different rock families. They extended their learning of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks by making their very own rocks out of starburst! This helped them visualise the different rocks and how they are formed, building on their resourcefulness skills.

'It was fun using starburst to make different rocks!' - Ryan

'The starburst cut up into little pieces represent the sediments of rock.' - Zuriel

'When it was in our hands, it heated the starburst to form metamorphic rocks!' - Aida

'Lots of layers form sedimentary rock!' - Faramade

Year 3 - Summer Curriculum Newsletter

A warm welcome back to the Summer term.  We hope you find this letter informative; please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions on year3@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Homework:

Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

● 15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult (signed in the reading record)

● 15 minutes practising spellings in their spelling book

● 15 minutes rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

Mathletics and Times Table Rock Stars:

Every child has now received their login details for Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars, which means they can access their accounts outside of school. Both websites offer valuable resources that can support your child’s learning in maths so please encourage your child to use them.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practise their words every evening. Spelling books and reading records must be brought in on Fridays, which is also when the weekly test happens. This will be closely monitored.

P.E Lessons

Year 3 will have PE lessons every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child/ren are dressed appropriately as they will be participating in both indoor and outdoor activities. On Wednesdays, the children can come into school wearing their PE kit; white t-shirt, grey/blue/black shorts or tracksuit. If you need to purchase uniform, you can do this from our  school uniform supplier

Curriculum Information

We have included a summary of the topics which the children will be covering this term. If you would like to make any suggestions of what you or your child would like to learn in relation to the topics taught, please inform your child’s class teacher. We welcome any suggestions you may have.

Yours sincerely
