Year 3 Certificates

It's been a fantastic week of learning in year 3, here's what we have been learning about this week.

This week, the children began by learning about expanded noun phrases and how to improve the quality of their writing by using them effectively. The children then planned and wrote their independent plot for the story 'Stone Age Boy'. It was lovely to see the children use their imagination to alter the plot of the story. Well Done Year 3!

In Maths, the children began the week by starting their new learning module on the topic of time. The children were able to recall and write their roman numerals to 12 before using this information to tell the minutes past and to the hour. All Year 3 teachers were impressed by the children's enthusiasm on this topic. Great work Year 3!

This week's certificate winners are...

E for Excellence: Elliot-Ellis, Amari and Sofia.

Star Writer: Ahmad, Zariyah and Torsten.

Terrific Transport!

This week, year 3 finished their Geography topic for the half term - Transportation! The children have worked hard over that past 6 weeks learning about different modes of transportation, what is meant by words such as 'congestion' and which modes of transport give off the most pollution.

Our focus for this weeks lesson was the advantages and disadvantages of different modes of transport. The children demonstrated their brilliant reciprocity skills as each table was given a different mode of transport to focus on as a group. They were then given 5 minutes to list all of the advantages and 5 minutes to list all of the disadvantages of their given mode. Once their brilliant ideas were on paper, the children had the chance to share them with their peers.

Well done to year 3 for working so hard this half term!

"ULEZ stands for ultra low emission zone!" - Tyler

"Walking creates the least amount of pollution." - Athena

"walking is the best way to travel because it does not pollute the Earth." - Himanshi

Fabulous French in Year 3

This week in French, the children continued with their unit on French clothing. We started by reactivating our learning from the previous week and using MT/YT to recap the clothing we had learnt last week. The children showed great resilience learning the new items and worked with great receprocity to match the clothing and the correct french word. The children continued by choosing a picture of a person dressed in different items of clothing and wrote sentences describing the pictures.

“Mrs Doughty wears des lunettes.” - Amaira

"I liked pointing to my partners clothes and naming them in french." - Ayla

“I wish we could do French everyday!” - Zariyah

Year 4 PSHE

In our PSHE lesson over the last two weeks, we hve been looking at how to create an ideal community that we would like to live in. Year 4 children worked in small groups to create what the New Economics Foundation believes that if we were to practise regularly, would in fact improve our personal well-being. The five actions that contribute to a positive well-being and balanced mental health are:

  • Being connectd with others
  • Being active
  • Taking notice
  • Continuing to learn
  • Giving to others
The children then presented their plans to the class, there were some potential future presenters up there!

Looking for Local Landmarks

On Wednesday 15th May, the Year 3 children went on a walk to identify local landmarks. Linking to our Geography topic, the children had to use their reflectiveness skills to revise ideas and discuss their learning, to draw on their prior knowledge of what human and physical features are. They then had to identify human and physical features within the environment, using their reciprocity skills to work with their peers.
The walk was a lovely way to enhance our learning in Year 3.

'There's Lidl, my mum shops in there. Lidl is a human feature.' - Cruz

'Fields are a physical feature.' - Thomas

'We didn't see any features that were both physical and human.' - Ava

Super Survival Skills!

On Friday, the Year 3 children put their survival skills to the test by taking on the very dangerous terrain also known as the school field!
They had to display resilience, resourcefulness, reciprocity and reflectiveness to ensure that they could survive in the wild.
The children had to work together to solve the first problem of how to make a fire and what resources they would need. After mastering task 1 it was swiftly on to the next challenge - how to build a shelter, the children demonstrated great reciprocity during this task as well as using their resourcefulness skills to locate materials and then build a shelter that would protect them from the elements. The last challenge that awaited the children, was working out which plants, flowers and berries would be safe to eat and which would make them poorly. They demonstrated great reflectiveness skills during this part of the challenge, planning carefully using the key and plant guide and discussing their learning with their peers.

We are very proud of the children, and of how committed they all were to complete each of the challenges. Well done Year 3, you are all super survival skill specialists!
