Year 3 Literacy

In Literacy this half term year 3 have been working incredibly hard. We have been linking our learning to the book 'How To Live Forever'. We began the half term by writing our own diary entries, from the perspectives of Peter and the Ancient Child.

This week, we have been working towards our goal of creating our own balanced arguments. To support in this, we have learned the different features of a balanced argument, created our own arguments for and against and even debated our arguments against other pupils in the class!

As we move forward, year 3 will prepare for their independent balanced arguments by working in teams to cerate arguments for and against Peter reading the book of immortality. The pupils have worked really well together so far, demonstrating their fantastic reciprocity skills. The staff look forward to hearing the children's opinions as we move towards writing our final piece.

I liked that we could argue for and against  - Danni-Ella

It was really fun to learn about how to debate a balanced argument - Edie

We got to choose different topics that we could debate - Alfie

Year 3 Certificates 31.01.25

Another well done to the pupils in Year 3! Week 4 has been yet another successful week of learning and developing our skills.

In Literacy, we have moved onto our new topic - balanced arguments! We have been able to identify the features of a balanced argument and recognise the difference between fact and opinion. We have even worked in groups to create our own balanced arguments based on topics we chose and debate them in the classroom.

Let's celebrate this weeks certificate winners!

Zones of Regulation: managing feelings of failure.

After today’s assembly on managing feelings of failure, the children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 created their own personalised mantras to help them reframe those tough moments when things don’t go as planned. The goal was to empower them with positive affirmations they can use when they’re feeling discouraged or frustrated. These mantras, like "I can try again" or "Mistakes help me learn," remind them that failure is just a stepping stone to growth.

For parents looking to continue this conversation at home, here are some ideas to try:

  1. Create a Family Mantra Board: Have each child come up with a mantra, and write them on a big board or poster where everyone can see. Add new ones over time as they discover more ways to stay positive.

  2. Model Growth Mindset Language: Use phrases like “I haven’t figured it out yet” or “I’ll keep practising” when you face challenges, so your child can see how to embrace setbacks.

  3. Celebrate Effort, Not Just Success: Remind your children that trying hard and persevering is something to be proud of, whether they succeed immediately or not. Celebrate the small wins along the way!

  4. Have a Reflection Time: After your child faces a challenge, take a moment to reflect together on what they learned, and help them reframe any disappointment into an opportunity for growth.

By fostering these positive habits, parents can help their children feel confident and resilient, even when they don’t succeed right away.

Tuesday choir

I hope you've had a good weekend and the children have recovered from our late night on Thursday at the O2. It really was a fantastic day and the children represented Broadford school in the most fantastic way.

We are already preparing for our next event which is the Havering Music festival at the Queens Theatre in May.

For this reason there will not be a choir practise on Tuesday 28th January 2025 but it will commence again on Tuesday 4th February.

Children will be bringing a letter home with the details for this event with permission slips for you to sign.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
