Year 3 Certificates

What a great start to the week and the new term that we have had!

In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of comparing and converting different lengths using the vocabulary centimetres and millimetres.

In Literacy, we have started our new book, Escape from Pompeii, where we have been learning all about Mount Vesuvius and the destruction its eruption caused to the city and people of Pompeii.

In science this week, the children have been introduced to our new topic - Light. The children explored different light sources and then grouped objects according to natural and artificial light.

Well done Year 3 - below are our certificate winners for this week !

Year 3 Learning Journey - Maths

Year 3 Learning Journey - Maths

This week, the children have started their new topic of length and perimeter and began by using a ruler to measure in centimetres. The children followed the steps to success, which included ensuring that their ruler is lined up with the end of their object at zero. The children then looked at the other end of the object and looked at which point of the ruler this corresponded with. They wrote their answers in their books and remembered to add the unit of measurement, cm, at the end of the number.

They then focused on millimetres and used their existing knowledge to help them answer some questions in their book. The children were able to spot the pattern (see below) and this helped them to convert millimetres into centimetres and centimetres into millimetres.

1 cm = 10 mm

2 cm = 20 mm

3 cm = 30 mm etc.

We are very proud of the progress the children have made this week. - Year 3 Teachers.

10mm is equal to 1cm - Alfie

Millimetres are smaller than centimetres - Roza

3cm is greater than 3mm - Isabella

Year 4 - Drama In Literacy - New Text Alert !

This half-term has started off with a bang! The children have been captivated by the our new text 'The Boy in the Girl's Bathroom' by Louis Sachar which explores the journey of a school bully whose behaviour improves through intervention.

This week our Year 4's immersed ourselves into the story by engaging in hot-seating in the role of Bradley, the main character.

'Bradley feels embarrassed because he plays with his toys.' - Andreea - Elm

The children also dramatised a scene from Chapter 3 to further develop their understanding of the character's thoughts and feelings.

'Don't you dare talk to your mother like that!' Sultan , in role of Bradley's Dad . - Elm

"I Really felt sorry for Bradley, then I didn't and now I do again!" - Elsie, Willow

Year 4 Hindu Workshop

This week in Year 4, we were lucky enough to revisit our knoweledge on Hinduisms from last half term. It was amazing getting to see the religious icons, items and fabrics. We were amazed by the knowledge shared by our visitors. Not only the visitors but also how enthusiastic our peers became when they also managed to share their personal experiences.

"The scriptures are called The Vedas and have been translated into many different languages." - Fire, Elm

"The sari can be designed in more than 100 ways!" - Maya-Aisha, Elm

"I love how colourful the traditional clothing was." - Scarlet, Willow

Science Week 2025! Calling all students!

On the 10th - 15th March the children are going to be taking part in Science week. This week is lots of fun and the children have a great time exploring  and learning all about Science.

This years theme is Adapt and Change. So we are asking all children to bring a plastic bottle to complete activties and learning within their year group. If you have any extra bottles to share we would be extremely grateful.

Could all bottles please be in school the week commencing the 3rd March.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Science Team
