Year 3 What We Are Learning

This week, Year 3 explored a big question: How do Christians decide how to live? The children learned that Christians often find direction through the teachings of the Bible, praying for guidance, the Holy Spirit, and the support of their Christian community. We discussed how Christians might also ask themselves the following questions when making choices:

  • Does the Bible say it is okay?

  • Would Jesus do it?

  • Is it loving towards others?

To bring this to life, our class took part in a fantastic "Values Scavenger Hunt." They looked at real-life scenarios they might actually face—like being accidentally tripped during a football match—and worked out which of Jesus' teachings (such as forgiveness) would help solve the problem. They thoroughly enjoyed matching the scenarios to the right values and impressed us all with their deep thinking. A huge well done to Year 3!

Elm Class Swimming Consent

Year 4 2025-26 Swimming Lessons

In Year 4 the children will be having swimming lessons at the Central Park Leisure Centre.

All parents/carers, please complete Google Form.

Each class will have one half an hour session each week in a block.

Elm:  Commencing in Summer. Date TBC

Elm class should get roughly 10 sessions each (STC) which will ensure they achieve the swimming requirements of the national curriculum in KS2 which are to:

- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters
- use a range of strokes effectively
- perform a safe self-rescue in different water based situations

The children will leave school in the afternoon, accompanied by Year 4 staff, and we will make our way to Central Park Leisure Centre on foot. We will return to school before the end of the school day.

Your child will need:

  • Swimming costume or swimming trunks (no bikinis please!)

  • A towel

  • A named bag to carry and store their items in

  • A swimming hat

  • Goggles (not essential, but can be worn if preferred)

Children should come to school in their uniform and will get changed when we arrive at Central Park Leisure Centre. Please note, no aerosols or powders should be given to children, as these can cause problems for children with asthma.

All children, regardless of ability, will be taking part in swimming lessons as they are a National Curriculum requirement. Children will only be exempt from lessons with a signed and dated doctor’s note or certificate.

If you have any questions or queries about this or any other swimming related issue, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 4 team via year4@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Year 3- Certificates (week 3)

This week in our lessons, the classrooms have been full of busy, curious learners. The children have been actively exploring new ideas through hands-on activities and exciting experiments. Their enthusiasm for discovering how things work has led to thoughtful questions, teamwork, and plenty of problem-solving. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they investigate, experiment, and share what they have learned. These children have earned certificates for their hard work this week.

Yera 3 What We Are Learning

This week, the children participated in a Reader’s Theatre lesson. During the lesson, they read an extract from Adam Wins the Internet. They focused on their use of tone, volume and body movement to bring the text to life. Well done Year 3!

Year 4 Wild Curriculum Day

Year 4 Wild Curriculum Day 🌿

Year 4 enjoyed an exciting Wild Curriculum Day packed with hands-on learning and outdoor activities. The children were split into two groups so that they could take part in two different activities during the day.

The first activity built on a skill the children began learning in Year 3: whittling. Using peelers and working carefully, the children whittled wooden sticks to create their own gnomes, shaping a flat surface and carving pointy hats. It was fantastic to see how confidently they applied the skills they had previously learned.

For the second activity, the children created nail and thread designs on wooden cookies. After carefully hammering nails into the wood, they used colourful loom bands to weave around the nails and create unique patterns and designs. Each finished piece was creative and completely individual.

The children also took part in some orienteering activities to further develop their knowledge of the school grounds. Working together, they navigated around the area and practised their map-reading skills.

It was a brilliant day of creativity, teamwork and outdoor learning, and the children showed great enthusiasm in all the activities.

World Book Day Year 4

Year 4 Celebrate World Book Day in Style

Year 4 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day this week, with excitement and creativity filling the classroom from the moment the children arrived at school. The costumes were absolutely amazing, and it was wonderful to see the children proudly showing them off to their classmates. From well-known storybook characters to imaginative creations, the effort and enthusiasm everyone put into their outfits made the day extra special.

It was so fun completing all the acitivites together. - Danni - Ella

We had so much fun coming to school in our pyjamas - Isabelle

Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of fun and engaging activities. One of the highlights was an online quiz where pupils tested their knowledge of different books and characters. The class also enjoyed an interactive lesson that encouraged them to think about their favourite stories and explore new ones.

"You have those books Miss Brimmer, they're my favourite!" - Moyo, Elm

"She wrote one of your books Miss!" - Tommy, Elm

In addition, the children completed a variety of reading challenges and activities designed to celebrate the joy of books and storytelling. These tasks allowed them to share their love of reading, discover new authors, and work together with their friends.

World Book Day was a wonderful opportunity for Year 4 to celebrate reading in a fun and memorable way. It was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic about books, and the fantastic costumes truly brought their favourite stories to life.

Well done, Year 4, for making the day such a success!

Thank you to all of the parents and children that donated books.
