Broadford Bake Off Week 2

This week the children started to learn how to work safely in the kitchen. With the help of an adult the children successfully melted chocolate over the hob and then used this delicious chocolate to decorate and cover marshmallows and strawberries. Reciprocity was shown by many especially Isaac Wright who took on the role of ensuring every child in his group had an equal amount of marshmallows and strawberries, had the opportunity to break the chocolate and stir the chocolate and that everyone took their turn when covering the marshmallows in chocolate. A very big well done to Isaac!

Broadford Bake Off Week 1

Broadford Bake Off students had a very successful week 1. The children used their folding, mixing and piping skills to creatively decorate biscuits. "I tried to make a smiley face like mine!" explained a very satifisfied Leo Mbata from Elm class.

Cave Art in Birch

To link with our topic of how early man communicated, in our art lesson we had to create a cave painting on a range of textures. Firstly, we discussed what we would be drawing then we had to crumple our paper to form a uneven  surface. Following this we had to lie underneath the table, this replicated how it may have felt to create a cave painting. Libby commented "I found it most challenging having to to draw with no lights on and being underneath the table as it was very difficult to see."

Willow class experiment with energy

In Science today Willow class were learning all about potential and kinetic energy. By experimenting with spring toys, they were able to identify potential energy (when the spring had been pushed down) and kinetic energy (when the spring shot back up).

Willow class, of course, were incredibly excited to observe the kinetic energy in the toy as it flew up into the air!

They waited anxiously as they witnessed the stored up potential energy suddenly transfer into kinetic energy.

Using their scientific investigative skills, they were able to learn all about the transfer of energy whilst having a lot of fun! Great work Willow!

Year 3 and 4 take on the Cooper Run Challenge

This term in PE the children are working on their health related fitness. We began with the bleep test last week and this week the children completed the Cooper Run Challenge. They all successfully ran for a constant period of time and managed to prove to themselves that they are long distance runners. During the challenge the children also used their numeracy skills as whilst some were running the others were recording how many laps they could complete, this was very successfully and provided the children with a baseline, hopefully they can do even better next time! "The run was difficult but I managed to complete 14 laps around the playground, even though I was out of breath I was extremely proud of this!" from Sienna in Sequoia class.
