Year 3 Learning Challenge Autumn 1

How well do you know your local area?

Below is the significant person, painting, piece of music and poem which are related to this half term's theme - How well do you know your local area?

It would be brilliant to see as many completed projects as possible in Year 3!

Person

Frank Lampard

Painting

'Wivenhoe Park'
by John Constable

Music

'A13, Trunk Road to the sea' by Billy Bragg

Poem

'If I Were to Own' (Abridged) by Edward Thomas

If I were to own this countryside
As far as a man in a day could ride,
And the Tyes were mine for giving or letting,--
Wingle Tye and Margaretting
Skreens, Gooshays, and Cockerells,
Shellow, Rochetts, Bandish, and Pickerells,

Fields where plough-horses steam and plovers
Fling and whimper, hedges that lovers
Love, and orchards, shrubberies, walls
Where the sun untroubled by north wind falls,

For a song, a blackbird's song, at dawn.
He should have no more, till on my lawn
Never a one was left, because I
Had shot them to put them into a pie,--
His Essex blackbirds, every one,
And I was left old and alone.

Year 4 Spellings July 4-8

Below are the Year 4 spelling words for the next two weeks.

Students are highly encouraged to practice their spellings at least 15 minutes a day. In order to get merit stickers, students are also encouraged to search for  definitions of the words and write the last 5 words into meaningful sentences. Good Luck!

Hazel Searches for Pirate Gold in ICT Class!

Hazel students practiced how to make a game where they had to collect all the pirate's gold and use variables to count the coins. It was an entertaining and challenging task as students had to figure out the right code to move the variables.

"I really enjoyed this activity because I had to be strategic where to place the pirate (up, down, left, right) in order to get the coins". -William

"There were a lot of trial and error mishaps in order to finish the task. Jack and I worked well together because we communicated clearly and figured out how to overcome the obstacles". -Martin

Hazel's Star Writer

Congratulations to Abbie for constructing balanced arguments as to whether students should or should not wear uniforms. She worked hard to independently think of her reasons and to write them down in complete sentences by beginning each sentence with a capital letter and ending them with appropriate punctuation. Abbie also reflected on how she will improve next time: "I wrote my big write in one giant paragraph and now I know why I need to separate my ideas in different paragraphs. Writing in one giant paragraph looks disorganized and its hard to read my different ideas. So next time I will skip a line after each viewpoint".
