This half term, the children have been taking on the role of sculptors! They began by researching famous statues, thinking carefully about their size, scale, and shapes.
Next, they designed and built sturdy plinths to hold their creations. Using pipe cleaners, they crafted human figures to attach to their bases. The trickiest part of the project was definitely joining everything together securely, which required a lot of patience, problem-solving, and fine-motor skills!
To wrap up their work, the children sculpted clay figures representing members of the public standing in an art gallery or park, stopping to observe their statues. They have done a brilliant job bringing their artistic ideas to life.
"Making the pipe cleaner people stand up on the plinth was really tricky, but I kept trying until it worked!" - Amaya, Elm
"My favorite part was squishing the clay to make a little person who is standing in the park, looking up at our big statue." - Jack, Maple
"We had to think super carefully about the shapes and sizes so our statues wouldn't fall over!" - Eridola, Willow
