Year 4 sailed through the Olympic park

The children of year 4 were fortunate enough to experience a cruise along the River Lea. They had the opportunity to see a range of wildlife such as coots, swans, young grebes diving and a lone cormorant enjoying the sunshine.

Year 4 conquer their fears

Willow and Birch thoroughly enjoyed swinging through the trees today. Many children conquered their fear of heights in the jungle environment at the Olympic park.

Year 4 are on route to London!

Birch and Willow are on route to the Olympic Park. We have some very excitable children who are looking forward to exploring the park.

Year 3 Spellings

Due to the bank holiday, the trip to Stratford and the election, Year 3 children only had two days of lessons last week. Therefore, this week's spellings incorporate the same 'super-' prefix for some words, though the words themselves have changed. Please note, 'Gandhi' was spelt incorrectly on last week's spellings so this week we have included it again (this time spelt correctly!) Mr Lander will be made to do the spelling test with the children this week in order that no such errors occur in future!

Ash Class Star Writer

The Star Writer in Ash this week is Ethan Borrell. In our first week of explanation texts in Big Write, we imagined our perfect room-cleaning robots and wrote an explanation of how it goes about its work. Ethan's writing not only includes lots of high-level features such as adverbs of time and manner, powers of three and alternative pronouns, it also demonstrates a mature 'writer's voice' that will stand him in great stead as he prepares to move up to Year 4. Well done Ethan!

Birch Star Writer

Star Writer in Birch this week is Brandon Brown. He has successfully written an imaginative ending to a historical story using a range of adjectives, adverbs and speech. His work was a pleasure to read. Keep up the hard work Brandon!

Y3 Spellings - correction

Dear parents,

Apologies for the typo on this week's spellings (Mr Lander has been made to write 50 lines of 'Stratford'!) and for the fact that our ailing photocopier has obscured the word of the week on some copies that the children took away yesterday. Please find the spellings for each group below.

Birch Star Writers

This week there are two Star Writers in Birch. Deborah Mushonga and Jackie Ramalingam have both created two super paragraphs for their ongoing Robin Hood stories. They have used a variety of adventurous vocabulary, have thought carefully about the construction of their sentences and have also been able to use a range of adverbs to up-level their writing. Keep up the hard work girls!
