Year 4 Spring Curriculum Letter

Interim Headteacher: Mr J McLucas

6th January 2020

Year 4 - Spring Curriculum Newsletter

A warm welcome back to a new decade from the Year 4 team!  We hope you had a restful break and managed to enjoy some quality time with your friends and families.

We hope you find this letter informative; please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions relating to the curriculum.

Homework:
Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:
● 15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult (signed in the reading record)
● 15 minutes practicing spellings in their spelling book
● 15 minutes rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

We would really like to see a push on times table recall this term as the children will be completing the multiplication tables check (MTC) later in the year. By the end of Year 4, children need to be able to recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12 so we will be doing a lot of work on this at school.  More information about the check can be found here:

Extended Learning:
To assist children with their learning even further, the children can use the ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Rockstars’ online platforms. The children have their details to access these where they can complete tasks set by the teacher.
Spellings:
Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practice their words every evening. Spelling books and reading records must be brought in on Fridays, which is also when the weekly test happens.

P.E Lessons:
Ash and Birch will now have PE lessons every week on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that your child is in possession of a full, named PE kit for their lessons.

Parental help:
It is always extremely valuable to have parents who are able to volunteer time to help hear the children read, or support them with their times tables. If you think that you are able to give a small amount of regular time to support the children then it would be warmly welcomed.

Stay & Learn Session:
We look forward to welcoming you into class for our stay and learn session this term which will be on 13.2.20  with a maths focus.

Curriculum Information
We have included a summary of the topics which the children will be covering this term. If you would like to make any suggestions of what you or your child would like to learn, please inform your child’s class teacher as we welcome any suggestions you may have.

Thank you for your continued support - we look forward to a brilliant 2020 full of fabulous learning experiences!

Yours sincerely,
