Christmas Poetry in Year 4!

This week, Year 4 have been writing Christmas poems in Literacy. They began with exploring the poem "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" and identified the use of rhyming couplets in the poem. The children then created their own word bank of words that are related to Christmas and came up with their own rhyming words. For example, ringing rhymes with singing, bringing and carolling.

Here are some of the poems that children have written.

"Rhyming words connect the poem together and make the poem come alive." - Ethan, Birch

"It is fun to read poems with rhyming words." - Emily, Birch

"I didn't realise rappers are poets. Even RAP stands for Rhythm And Poetry." - Riley, Ash

"It was really hard to put rhyming words at the end of a sentence but eventually we got there. I loved learning about rhyming couplets!" - Dhriti, Ash

"It was really fun writing my poem in a group. We started by thinking about our rhyming couplets and then built our sentences from there", Shajia, Larch
