Year 4 navigating London

On Wednesday, year 4 visited London as part of their geography topic, landmarks. In  groups of ten they planned the five landmarks they would visit and then in twos or threes, planned the route using trains, the underground and walking. The choices were The Shard, Golden Hinde, HMS Belfast, Tower of London, Tower bridge and London bridge. They all were excellent at their planning the route needed and were able to take the adults to the planned landmarks. After lunch in the Jubilee gardens, we made our way to the cable cars in North Greenwich where we crossed over the Thames with spectacular views. The children were well-behaved and a credit to our school. All the staff would like to thank the adults who supported us, as without them the trip would not be possible. I hope you enjoy a few of the photos.

The teachers in year 4 would like to say a huge congratulations to all the children for the results in the MTC. This year was phenomanal as 70% scored 25/25 and 92% scored over 20/25. They have worked so hard to achieve this and they deserve a round of applause! Well done! Individual results will be in their reports.

Year 3 Certificates

Well done to everyone in year 3 for having another successful week! The children have been especially resilient this week and have worked well despite the soaring temperatures.

This week in Literacy, Year 3 began to look at scripts and their key features. They engaged well in their learning and have even been able to turn extracts from George's Marvellous Medicine into a script! Well done children, keep up the great work.

In Math, the children are enjoying our new topic - shapes. We started the week continuing on with learning about lines and learned what is meant by the terms parallel and perpendicular. Through the rest of week we have looked at a variety of 2D and 3D shapes and all of their properties. You are doing great Year 3, well done.

Let's give a huge well done to those pupils who managed to shine bright this week and go the extra mile - our certificate winners!

Year 3 Certificates

It's been a fantastic week of learning at Broadford and then children have been working hard to make progress in their learning.

In Literacy, the children have been writing their own independent shape poems on the shape of the medicine bottle from George's Marvellous Medicine. The children used the features of poetry writing, including repetition, onomatopoeia, alliteration and rhyme to create some excellent examples of shape poetry. They should all be proud of their hard work! Well done Year 3.

In Maths, the children have moved on to their new learning module for this half term, the properties of shape. The children learned and practiced the concepts of rotating a shape clockwise and anti-clockwise, before moving on to learn about angles. The children were able to identify acute and obtuse angles, as well as right angles. Great work!

This week's certificate winners are...

Year 3 Computing

In this lesson, Year 3 programmed a sprite to move in four directions: up, down, left, and right. They begun by choosing a sprite and sizing it to fit in with a given background. The children then created the code to move the sprite in one direction before duplicating and modifying it to move in all four directions. Finally, they considered how their project could be extended to prove that their sprite had successfully navigated a maze.

‘I made the pencil move like magic’ - Lily

'It was fun to move the sprite through the maze,' - Qhaleed

'When I pressed the green flag my sprite moved!' - Toni
