Today in Year 3, parents were invited to join us for our third, and final, Stay and Learn session. The focus of this session was Opal and how we encourage children to learn through play.
Play time is a hidden part of the school day for the children, so we felt that it was important for you to see how play at break and lunchtime has developed during Broadford’s OPAL journey, how the children are playing and, also, give context to the requests and pleas we send out to the school community e.g., welly requests, loose parts donations, fundraising efforts.
It was lovely to see so many of you building dens and using the Opal equipment with your child/children in the school grounds. We made dens, used the scooters and prams, made up imaginative stories and much more. The children then helped to tidy the equipment away.
Throughout the session, the children demonstrated their 4R's in many different ways.
Resilience - The children supported each other in overcoming problems and learned from mistakes to grow stronger together. This was evident in the den building activity.
Resourcefulness - The children used their creativity and imaginations to make the most of the resources available to them. They also found new ways to play with the materials.
Reciprocity - We witnessed collaborative play and turn taking, whilst also ensuring that we completed our pupil jobs, including being kind and polite to everyone.
Reflectiveness - Adults supported the children to be reflective. If something did not work first time, we reflected on why this was the case and how we could improve this next time.
We hope you enjoyed the session as much as we did.
Please note, we also are always looking for ride-on toys, scooters, old suitcases and more. We welcome and appreciate anything that you can spare and we thank you for coming along to our Stay and Learn session today.
