Project Superstar!

Romans hit Rowan!
On Thursday, Rowan class were invaded by Roman soldiers!
After learning all about Boudicca's story of how she battled with the Roman soldiers at Colchester to protect her Iceni tribe and her Celtic land, we then examined real armor the Roman's would have worn and imagined how tough a battle in those conditions would have been. The armor was very heavy!
We then brought this to life by having a pretend battle of Roman v. Celt in the classroom!

Rowan team building!
Here are a few snaps of Rowan's team building activity using the parachute on Friday. We had lots of fun and had to think very carefully when solving the problem of how to keep the football spinning around the parachute in the same direction without dropping it! However, we did it in the end! Hooray!
More scientists at work...
This week in Year 3 and 4 we have been busy conducting experiments into how our diet effects our teeth.
After much discussion and lots of 'creative' ideas about how we can test this, we decided on placing eggs into jars of milk, coke and vinegar to see what they do the outer eggshell, which is similar to the enamel on our teeth.
We don't know the results yet, however we are excited to see what happens! Here are some pictures of us conducting our experiment:

Scientists at work...
Year 3/4 have continued learning about teeth - different teeth we have, how to keep them healthy and how the theeth we have determine our diet.
We have been busy observing skulls of various animals, examining their teeth and concluding what sort of diet they must have had based on their teeth.
For example, a carnicore (meat eating animal) would need canine teeth in order to bite and tear it's food.

A 'Golden Time' for learning!
In year 3 and 4 we like to reward our pupils for all their hard work during the week with a 'Golden Time' session at the end of the day on a Friday.
This is where the children are free to choose whatever activity they would like.
However, our pupils are so keen and eager to never stop learning that they have chosen activities that still stretch their minds. Whether it is keeping a tally of ping pong scores, creating adventurous words in scrabble or adding together scores from their darts game, they are always challenging themselves!
This makes us very proud - well done year 3 and 4!

An apple a day...
In year 3 and 4 this term we are learning all about healthy eating and our teeth. we thought what better way to kick start this than by mulling over and suggesting ideas about how we can investigate these while enjoying a healthy snack together!
We all took a bite from our apple and then examined our bite marks. All of our bite marks were different and we discussed how our teeth our indiviual to us. We then decided to thought shower all of our ideas about other ways that we can start investigating our teeth, which we will then carry out over the term.
