Year 4 Certificates 24/1/2020

Reflectiveness:
Well done Tiggy. You have shown a great interest in English this term. You are fully engaged in the story 'Varjak Paw' and you are able to reflect on the story with your peers.

Well done Sophie. You are an incredible individual. You have been very engaged in Maths and you are great at applying you times table knowledge to solve division word problems.

Resilience:
Well done Andrew. You have become confident at completing work to the best of your ability. You are a hard working individual and you always want to produce the best work.

Ollie and Freddie have really impressed us this week with their great independent writing. They have demonstrated that they can build suspense and tension using different techniques.

Year 3 become rock hunters

In Year 3 we kicked off our Science topic by looking at some rocks! We watched a video that showed us how to test if some rocks were hard or soft. We then sorted the rocks physically into categories that we decided ourselves. Some of us sorted them into hard or soft, some used colours. From this we learnt the names of the rocks and sorted them into a Venn diagram.

Ceejay said “I can see parts of animal that can make up a rock.”

Our next lesson was an investigation on how waterproof rocks are. We used pipettes to drop water on to rocks and then we made close observations.

Year 3 Maths Stay and Learn

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came to the Year 3 Maths stay and learn last Tuesday.

Below is some information that was presented during the stay and learn.

As promised here is the link to the national curriculum year 3 expectations, scroll down to page 18 for year 3. Link As mentioned during the meeting government expectation is that any child working at an age appropriate level will have mastered all of their timetables up to 12 by the end of year 4.
By the end of year 2 they should have learnt their 2, 5 and 10.
By the end of year 3 they should have mastered their 3, 4, 8.
By the end of year 4 they should know them all.

How you can help your child at home

  • Support your child with using Rockstars times tables.
  • Talk about the time and make it the norm to read an analogue clock throughout the day.

  • Play other games such as Hit the button and board games.
  • Encourage your child to write their times table out.
  • Check your child is secure with their number bonds to 100.

Rockstars
The children carry out a sound check every Friday, this (test) reflects the screening test they have to complete in Year 4 for the government.  When they play in the garage room these timetables should be  set at their ability and reflect the level they are currently working at.
