As part of our Africa topic, Year 3 and 4 have been researching what it is like on an African Safari. We were lucky enough to interview someone who has actually been there and knows a lot of information about it - our very own Mrs Nicholls!
In preparation for our interview, we worked on perfecting our use of question and speech marks in our writing, as well as choosing good words for asking open questions, such as what, where, why and how.
We all got together this afternoon and used 'Face Time' on the Ipad to interview Mrs Nicholls live!
Here are some of the facts we found out:
1. Children in Kenya do go to school, however they do not use pencils and paper like we do. Instead, they write their calculations in the sand with sticks!
2. They use dried cow dung to clean their teeth!
3. On Safari, there are animals which are referred to as the 'Big Five' - these are lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetah and giraffes.
4. The giraffes there are very tall - twice the height of a jeep!
5. The Masai Mara are a tribe that live in Kenya - they live in villages with other members of their tribe. They are very quiet and like to live a simple life.
Thank you Mrs Nicholls for allowing us to interviewing you today - we really enjoyed it and learned lots!
