Year 3 Certificates

A huge well done to all of our wonderful certificate winners this week!

The Year 3 children have had a fabulous week of learning. In Literacy the children have been thinking about alternative endings to the class novel - George's Marvellous Medicine.
The children completed their unit on time this week and have moved onto shape in Maths.
In Science, the children continued to observe and record the results of their investigation - what do I need to grow the tallest sunflower. Some of the sunflowers are already past 6cm in height!

As always, the children have been superstars this week and we are so proud of them all.

Year 3 are Magnificent Mathematicians!

Year 3 have just completed their maths unit about time where they have learnt how to read and write time on both an anaologue and digital clock, work out duration and solve a range of time problems. We began by using our individual clocks to represent different times, ensuring our minute and hour hand were in the correct places. We were then told how much time had passed and needed to move our minute hand to show this.

Using number lines, we were able to work out the duration of different events including some of our favourite movies. By applying all of these skills together, we were able to solve a variety of time-related problems.

Year 3 showed off their reciprocity skills throughout these lessons by working with their partner to use their clocks and support eachother with their learning. Time has been a tricky concept so well done to all of Year 3 for being resilient learners!

''I know that I need to move my minute hand to show much time has passed in that hour'' - Flynn

''AM is the morning and PM is the afternoon and evening. 12:00 midnight is when I should be sleeping!'' - Poppy-Rae

The Big Help Out - Update Year 3

Earlier this term, Year 3 made cards as part of The Big Help Out, in celebration of the King's Coronation, for the children in Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We wanted to update you to let you know that over the weekend, the staff from GOSH sent the following email and pictures to the school.

Apologies that it has taken a couple of weeks to send an email to you, but I wanted to get in touch to thank you very much for the beautiful cards made by the children! They are all so uplifting and a lot of care and effort was clearly taken to make them. We displayed them at the charity desk in the hospital for staff and patient families to see this week.

Well done Year 3, we are so proud of you all.

Year 3 Certificates

A huge well done to all of our wonderful certificate winners this week!

The Year 3 children have had a fabulous week of learning. In Literacy they finished reading the class novel- Georges Marvelous Medicine and got to present their poetry to their peers thinking about tone, intonation, volume and actions.
Maths has continued to focus on time, but this week they moved onto looking at durations of time and took their learning outside to investigate with stop watches!
In Science, the children began to observe and record the results of their investigation - what do I need to grow the tallest sunflower. There was lots of excitement what the children returned after the weekend to see the seeds had begun to grow.

As always, the children have been superstars this week and we are so proud of them all.

Year 3's Glorious Geography!

In Geography this term, we are learning all about Earthquakes and Volcanoes. We started by reactivating our knowledge and discussed what volcanos we have learnt about in year 3. The children were very keen to use their reflectiveness skills to reflect on their Literacy lessons and remembered Mount Vesuvius from our book, Escape from Pompeii. We then explored the features of Earth and the different layers that Earth is made up of. Excitingly, the children used play dough to create a 3D structure of Earth and labelled the different layers (core, mantle and crust).

Then, we moved on to exploring the features of a volcano. The children looked at two different types of volcanoes, composite and shield volcanoes. We discussed tectonic plates and how they can cause volcanic eruptions. As their task, the children then labelled the different features of a volcano.

'We also learnt about Mount Tambora!' - Ayaan

'The core is at the centre.' - Georgia

'The crust is the part we can see!' - Sophie

Year 3 - Colchester Zoo!

Today, year 3 visited Colchester Zoo and we had a brilliant day visiting all of the animals. We were lucky enough to see sea lions being fed, giraffes, elephants, lions, monkeys and more! Some of us were able to hold stick insects, walk amongst the goats and take a walk down to the flamingos. After stopping for lunch, we continued on our journey to ensure we explored the whole zoo including the llamas and alpacas, tortoises and chimpanzees. We represented the school amazingly; we were kind and polite to everyone we saw and tried out best to learn as many new facts as we could. We showed reciprocity by working together to see if we were stronger than an elephant! Thank you to all of our helpers for ensuring we made it around the zoo safely and we can't wait to share everything we did with you all at home.

''The penguin jumped out of the water and was acting like a lifeguard'' - Noah

'I enjoyed seeing the lions because they are a type of cat and I love cats!' - Lily

'The red panda can jump 10 foot in the air!' - Darcie
