Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check 2023
Dear Parent/Carer,
This term, your pupil will take part in the MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) that all schools in the country are required to complete. The multiplication check will take place within a three week window beginning Tuesday 6th of June 2023, after our half-term break.
The purpose of the check is to determine whether pupils can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s teacher/s to identify pupils who may need additional support as they move into Year 5.
The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 multiplication questions. Your child will answer 3 practice questions before moving onto the official check where they will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
The children have been practicing for this test all year and we are very proud of the progress they have made so far. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact me.
